Auroracoin is a is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency and open source software project based on Litecoin. Fifty percent of the maximum 21 million coins are intended to be distributed to the population of Iceland through an "airdrop" on March 25, 2014.[1] Auroracoin creation and transfer is based on open source protocol and not managed by any central authority. Unlike Bitcoin, Litecoin and most other cryptocurrencies, Auroracoin is designed to be primarily used in one geographic jurisdiction.
