- Event: An introduction to editing Wikipedia followed by an edit-a-thon to improve New Orleans related articles with a focus on using library resources to source articles.

Celebrate National Library Week by contributing to Wikipedia articles pertinent to our local community. You will learn how to contribute to Wikipedia and edit articles of local interest to the University of New Orleans.

Proposed topics
- Rene Grandjean (http://library.uno.edu/specialcollections/inventories/085.htm) -- Library is getting ready to digitize quite a few of this gentleman’s séance registers. He was an interesting character, but I don’t think he has a Wikipedia entry. There IS a René Grandjean in Wikipedia, but unlikely to be the same person.
- Beatrice Rodriguez Owsley (http://library.uno.edu/specialcollections/inventories/244.htm) Louisiana and Special collections indicates that research in her is growing in popularity or that it has been pointed out to her as very significant by some researchers. It is a collection of oral history projects conducted with members of the local Hispanic community. I think an article either on Ms. Owsley or her project in general would be worthy.
- Vieux Carré Property Owners, Residents & Associates (UNO collection at http://library.uno.edu/specialcollections/inventories/247.htm) There is already a very limited entry on this group I don’t know if it could be expanded with more information from our collection’s finding aid or not. At the very least, someone could add a link back to the finding aid. I have only done this for digital collections. I haven’t done it for physical ones.
- New Orleans Geological Society (http://library.uno.edu/specialcollections/inventories/305.htm) Doesn’t seem to have anything in Wikipedia. Sounds like it probably should.
