A best selling[1][2] author, Rydén is known for her writings entitled "True Life in God", a compilation of nearly 2000 messages she claims to have received from God. At her home in Bangladesh on November 1, 1985, while writing a grocery list, she claims to have suddenly experienced a light electrical feeling in her right hand and an invisible presence. She says that, led by the presence, she "permitted her hand to be guided", and wrote, "I am your guardian Angel and my name is Daniel." Rydén believes she has been called to transmit such messages to the world.[3] Rydén has written messages believed by her followers to have been prophetic.[4]
In 2013, Ryden published "Heaven Is Real But So Is Hell" which topped charts for both Barnes & Noble online and for Christian Orthodoxy on Amazon prior to the official publication date.[5]
In a book review in Inside the Vatican, Cardinal Prosper Grech discusses that the CDF had a dialogue with Ryden, in which she was asked to answer questions about her and her messages. Grech explains that he wrote to Ryden on behalf of the CDF, and that her response was “was precise and sincere, so it was thought that the CDF was satisfied.”[6]
In 2004, Ryden was granted an audience with Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, the then Prefect of the CDF. According to Grech “the correspondence was interpreted as permission to leave it to the bishops to decide. In 2007, however, Ratzinger’s successor Cardinal Levada reiterated that the Notification was still in force.” [6]
Grech concludes the book review with: Had this book been published earlier, after Vassula’s response to the questions put to her by the CDF, perhaps the decision to accept her and her messages would have been left to the local bishops and parish priests to decide.[6]
