Crackling bread is a dish from the Southern United States which mainly consists of cracklings and a type of bread, usually containing cornmeal. Cracklings are extremely similar to pork rinds and chicharrones, a dish made of fried pork rinds.

Use in American literature

Crackling bread is a meal featured in the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. It is the narrator's, Scout, favorite snack. It is cooked for her by her family chef Calpurnia when she is behaved well.
