Skill-based theories of second-language acquisition
Appearance
Proponents of'Skill-based theories of L2 acquisition' believe that L2 learning is just like skill acuisition in cognitive sychology. They think of L2 acquisition is identical to any other skill, like bike riding or learning how to play a guitar. They also consider practice as the main component of language acquisition. John Robert Anderson introduced his adaptive control of thought model to account for this issue in more details. (cf.VanPatten and Benati2010,pp=149–150).
This model has made a distinction between declarative knowledge, conscious knowledge, and procedural knowledge, the way how an activity is done. In Anderson's model, skill acquisition proceeds from declarative to procedural ,and finally autonomous knwledge successively.
