Joint Interface Control Officer
The Joint Interface Control Officer (JICO) (Senior JICOs are often pronounced as JIC-A-LOW) is the senior multi-tactical data link interface control officer in support of joint task force operations. The JICO is responsible for effecting planning and management of the joint tactical data link network within a theater of operations.[1]
They are known mostly for completing their primary duties without letting seconday duties interfere. Every year it is mandatory they attend a JICO symposium to bash out what is and what is not their primary duties for the upcoming fiscal year. Most symposiums end with no clear initiative as nobody thinks it their duty to make initiatives.
Nicknames of Joint Interface Control Officer's include: "foo", "son" and "God". There is a secret sign all JICO's know which involve martial art moves while making blowing noises.
JICO's are keen to the latest West Coast or Western fashion. They are commanly seen wearing top of the line T-shirts and Jeans at bars while carrying a baseball bat which they call a "JICO stick".
While ordering Asian cuisine, it is common for a JICO to order extra rice. Especially when ordering bulgogi. While ordering mexican cuisine they get extra beans for self defesne in small operating centers. Most JICOs are US Navy personnel to include Marines, so nonstandardized training for JICOs is considered the ideal. US Air Force JICOs are rare, since most AF JICOs (ABMs) separate from active service within an hour of JICO assignment. If your in the Army and a CW4 or CW5 140A, your automaticatically a JICO per p600_31 guidance manual (No schooling or expertise required). Yes Army 140as, your an honorary member of a JICO for knowing nothing but don't ask for the secret sign because the ones that earned wont tell you.
