The inertial navigation system on missiles and torpedoes are limited by the weight, volum and cost. The initialization of such inertial navigation systems sometimes must be rapid and accurate.
Compared to self alignment, transfer alignment is the process of initialising and calibrating a weapon INS using data from the host carrier's(aircraft, surface vessel) navigation system.
Different matching methods are designed to improve the speed and accuracy of the alignment. Velocity matching, position matching, attitude matching, velocity+attitude matching.
