When did it start?
Anyone know when GCJ began development?
I'm trying to expand the free Java implementations article and was hoping I'd find the answer here. Gronky 15:14, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
GCJ and Swing
According to gcc.org GCJ doesn't support swing, yet[1]. AWT is said to work mostly --84.156.117.111 (talk) 10:37, 4 March 2008 (UTC)
- I couldn't find even "mostly". I'll cut off that marketroidism to "work is ongoing". Said: Rursus (☻) 07:43, 30 October 2008 (UTC)
??? for MSIL
What is the name of native compiler for MSIL ? Bartok is for SingSharp (Singularity), not for C#
Criticisms
Someone in the know should write a section about how much GCJ sucks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Apphacker (talk • contribs) 19:51, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
- Truly, this is so. It's hard to overstate just how disruptive (and not in a good way) the presence of gcj on default Linux installs has been. Far better to have no java to start with and install a working one than have a broken one preinstalled that one must scrape (like so many runny dog turds) off the system. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.142.107.94 (talk) 20:51, 1 July 2011 (UTC)
Quote?
What is with the quote about CNI? It reads like a testimonial, but isn't attributed. The reader wonders who is this "We" that uses CNI? Also, the introduction to CNI seems a bit abrupt. Maybe it could be smoothed out. SlowJog (talk) 14:50, 30 April 2009 (UTC)
Project in maintenance mode?
The article says that this project is in maintenance mode, however the reference does not seem to indicate that, so far as i can tell. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 41.246.249.209 (talk) 16:26, 12 January 2010 (UTC)
- I think the article is some kind of vague or incomplete, because the page refered to have fewer updates lately. This GCC 4.3 Release Series description page instead tells us: gcj uses Eclipse Java compiler for parsing, making gcj accept Java 1.5 (AKA 5.0) constructions. Maybe the page refd to, reflects that the parsing was suddenly much more mature without the gcj maintainers wiggling their fingers too much. Rursus dixit. (mbork3!) 20:59, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
- Ah, I found a reference indicating that this "maintenance mode" stuff is an unfounded extrapolation, namely GCJ Status which was last modified Nov 2 2012. I think that the GCJ guys are not just announcement oriented. I'll surf around a little to see what last update really was. Rursus dixit. (mbork3!) 16:14, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
- Quite wrong. Last gcc series that had Java changes was 4.3. Thereafter nothing. I think maybe gcj lacks maintainers. Rursus dixit. (mbork3!) 16:45, 3 February 2013 (UTC)
