can any body explain scale parameters in simpler form

Poor definition

The definition doesn't take into account:

  • other possible parameters (there is only one in the formulas)
  • discrete distributions (with no density function). The definition should use cdf instead.
  • distributions with expected value different than 0. According to the current definition standard deviation is a scale parameter of the normal distribution only if μ=0
  • multivariate distributions

Done 3 of above 4: still leaves multivariate distributions Melcombe (talk) 09:40, 15 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
