LinuxTLE (ลินุกซ์ทะเล, /ˈlɪnəkstəl/) is a Thai Linux distribution based on Ubuntu and developed by the Thailand National Electronics and Computer Technology Center (NECTEC).

TLE stands for Thai Language Extension, as it was originally a Thai extension for Red Hat Linux.[citation needed] The pronunciation "talay" is a homophone of the Thai word ทะเล (the sea).

History

Linux TLE is developed by volunteer developers who were suppoeted by many agencies. In previous times, we were familiar with the name “MaTLE” or Mandrake and Thai Extension Linux. It means that Mandrake Linux with Thai language extension. In 2000, its name was changed to Linux TLE. Which is now distributed by Redhat Linux and developed by National Electronics and Computer Technology Center(NECTEC). We call this version Linux TLE3.0 (first edition and second edition is MaTLE). In January 2004, Linux TLE 5.5 has changed base distribution from Linux Redhat to Linux fedora core. In December 2004, Linux TLE 7.0 has changed base distribution again from Linux fedora core to Linux TLE (previous version). In February 2007, Linux TLE 8.0 has changed base distribution to Linux Ubuntu and increase one important feature. It is auto mount external drive. In the previous version, user must type command for mount external drive. Now, the newest Linux TLE10.0 use Ubuntu10.04LTS for base distribution. It has new many important feature such as support ram with more than 4GB, graphic interface in installation, and software to backup data .
