AOL Desktop

According to the wikipedia article AOL Desktop is an Internet Suite that combines a browser, media center etc. However, what internet browser is it using exactly? I feel like this is a stupid question but I ask because I had a technical support question come in from a customer who was using this program. As the AOL browser itself was discontinued 7 years ago many websites no longer support it so I expected that to be his issue. I'd like to know for sure should I ever come across anyone else using this system. Thanks. 63.95.64.254 (talk) 00:42, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

According to the system requirements for AOL Desktop 10.1, IE 6.0 or up is required. I believe that they have used a modified version of IE for awhile. MrScorch6200 (talk) 00:52, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
That's what I suspected, I bet they were using some funky version of IE9 or 10 then which isn't yet supported for my purposes. Thanks MrScorch. 63.95.64.254 (talk) 00:58, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Really free domains

Is it possible to get a free domain name that works just like a regular non-free domain name? What I found (e.g. http://www.dot.tk/ ) assumes that I already have a website somewhere under some domain name and only want a free redirect domain name. I already have a server running a website with a regular (non-free) domain and would like to experiment running a second website from the same server. Until I have decided on the final domain name for that second website, I'd like to use a free domain. Basically for testing the setting of my web and DNS server. So I don't really care on what the domain name is (could be "asfd962fa.tk" or whatever), as long as it is free and works like a normal domain name. bamse (talk) 09:39, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps I am misunderstanding what you are looking for, but what about a subdomain of your current domain? (otherproject.example.com) Most general web hosting providers allow that. KarlLohmann (talk) 11:31, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I could use a subdomain or perhaps I could use port based virtual hosts. It is just that I would prefer to keep (in my mind) the existing project separate from the old project and later I'd just replace freedomain.com with otherproject.com in the apache/bind configuration. bamse (talk) 16:44, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Sure! Just not on the Internet! You can run your own network, with your own root name server. bindd is free software, and you can run it on your own network, and configure it to route any name you like to any server you like. But chances are pretty high that you want other people to connect to your server using the domain-name. If so, you will probably want to register your name in a place that most of the Internet will look: one that several authoritative name servers will resolve. Registering with their instance of domain name database is the only way to get a globally-unique domain name that is resolvable throughout the world. Because you do not own these top level name servers, you don't have permission to just "add yourself" to their list. Those top level name servers are managed on behalf of IANA, the quasi-official organization that decides which giant mesh of networked computers is the giant mesh of networked computers; and they delegate domain-name registration to commercial providers. You could ask IANA to add you to their list, but they will probably not want to talk to you unless you are a major government organization, a nuclear-armed military, or a super-major commercial internet provider. Nimur (talk) 19:21, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So the question is whether names registered with the Top-level domain .tk are recognised and propagated efficiently by the DNS servers round the world. I've only ever registered .com .uk .eu and .info domain names, and these seem to propagate well within 24 hours. Along with Bamse, I'd be interested to know whether .tk works as efficiently. If no-one knows, we could try some experiments. One problem is that .tk domain names might not be as well protected as better-known ones, and so would not be suitable for important websites. Dbfirs 21:55, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
... on second thoughts, it's probably not worth experimenting. The .tk system seems to work unless it is blocked by a firewall somewhere, but the registrant never actually owns the name (unless they pay), so it can be reclaimed at any time. Dbfirs 23:10, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Right - let's be perfectly clear: the www.dot.tk scheme is really nothing more than a benevolent network engineer who is nicely allowing you to borrow his domain-name for your personal use. At no time is it ever really your domain-name (insofar as anybody can ever "own" an entry in a name-server database). It's great for the enthusiast or the hobbyist; and it's probably convenient for a lot of purposes; but it is essentially a security-hole if you depend on it: you are granting administrative privilege over the name service to a benevolent stranger. Nimur (talk) 23:40, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Just to make sure, with a free domain from www.dot.tk I cannot bind the domain to an ip address, or can I? As far as I saw it would only allow me to redirect to another domain, the idea being is that if I have an ugly domain name (e.g. from a free hosting) I could get a pretty domain from dot.tk and redirect it to the ugly domain. bamse (talk) 10:35, 6 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
There's no reason it shouldn't work for an ip unless it has been specifically disallowed. I tried this a few months ago and it worked. Maybe they changed it since then though. 82.44.76.14 (talk) 12:02, 6 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mouse buttons don't work on laptop

A user came in the office a bit ago complaining that she could click in a cell in Excel but then couldn't type anything in. I asked her to bring the laptop, a Toshiba running Win7, by and she did. What was open was Firefox and Lotus Notes but not Excel. I didn't ask her why it wasn't running when that's what she was complaining about. I was unable to get the left or right mouse buttons on the track pad to do anything though. It was as if they were clicking right through whatever window was there and clicking on the desktop. But the right button wasn't pulling up a contextual menu. I could move the pointer around with the track pad but not use the buttons. I eventually got an external track ball and was able to use that to check the mouse settings where I didn't find anything out of the ordinary. I then opened Excel and found that I could click in a cell and input text. So, I couldn't confirm the original issue. I closed Excel and tried the track pad and its buttons again. And just like that, they were working perfectly! The user was fine with that and went away but I'm still left wondering what could have caused the buttons not to function. Any ideas?

Note: This is not a request for medical or legal advice. Thank you, Dismas|(talk) 10:23, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Maybe just a random issue with the trackpad? It did resolve itself after all. I see them from time to time on my laptop even though it's an Acer running Win7. There's also callibration issues that arise from Excel (At least in the version i have), where clicks affect the wrong cells and resolve themselves usually after a minute or two. Until then, clicking A1 would select D1 for example, making working impossible. Thanks ใƒ„ Jenova20 (email) 10:37, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Does plugging in new hardware - in this case a trackball to replace the internal trackpad - load/reload the drivers? Astronaut (talk) 15:15, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
It had to install drivers for the trackball to work. Dismas|(talk) 17:08, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This developed further after I submitted the above question but I haven't had time to follow up here until now. She brought it back at the end of my shift saying that the buttons on the track pad were once again not working. So this issue comes and goes. One of my coworkers, who came in on the tail end of this, suggested that it might be a driver issue with the track pad. Today was my last day at work until Thursday and I won't see the user until Sunday, but when I do I will try to get a minute to update her track pad driver to see if that changes anything. Dismas|(talk) 17:08, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Failure, then working, then failing... sounds like a physical loose connection in the wiring to me. I solved a similar problem in a different laptop by just exposing the connection and re-seating it. If it were me, I also might first try some gentle percussive maintenanceย :) SemanticMantis (talk) 18:47, 5 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I would agree if it was just not clicking at all, but clicking through the top window onto the desktop sounds like it is a driver issue, to me. I'd try reinstalling the driver. StuRat (talk) 19:00, 6 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cannot connect to Google.com and other sites; invalid SSL certificate

Trisquel GNU/Linux 6.0, Firefox 25. Whenever I try to connect to Google.com or search anything from my browser's Google Search bar, I get a screen like this: http://i.imgur.com/5SwuoSM.png This problem has been going on since last night (it's morning as I write this) and was not solved by rebooting the laptop or turning the Wi-Fi on and off. Oddly enough, I can access the Google Images homepage, and from there various other Google pages, but I can't search for anything. Pokajanje|Talk 16:36, 6 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This might be a longshot, but check the date and time on your computer. If they are too far off reality it can cause the browser to think the certificate is invalid, either because it appears to have already expired or it appears to have been created in the future. There should be a menu which sets the tone and volume for text messages. Can you find that menuย ? What are the current settingsย ?
And a warning about doing a "Master Reset": that may very well lose a lot of things you want to keep, like your phone numbers. StuRat (talk) 19:02, 6 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Found it, it says "Tone of Notification", that's the only option for text messages. It is used to define the ring tone. That's the same for all notifications, when I turn on the Bluetooth I can hear the Bono singing "Hello, hello.", but when I receive an sms I hear nothing. Playing old Macintosh games on Linux?

After reading the Wikipedia articles Scarab of Ra and Cap'n Magneto, I thought, "Hey, I've played those games. In fact, I have them on disk." What I don't have is an Apple Macintosh computer, only your average PC running Linux and an original Amiga 4000. So, is it possible to somehow run these original Macintosh games on Linux via a Macintosh emulator? I presume that, since Apple is a for-profit company, I would have to have a legal, paid-for copy of the Macintosh operating system ROM, which I don't have, as I have never owned any Apple computer. (My sister does have a real, fully legal, modern Apple Mac laptop, but firstly, using ROMs from her computer might count as stealing, and secondly, I don't know if the ROMs would even work. After all it's been almost two decades.) So, what are my chances of playing these games, other than buying a real, physical original Apple Macintosh? JIP | Talk 20:45, 6 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't know how well it works (my own ethics allow me to use emulators with illegally copied ROMs) but Executor_(software) exists, which attempts to bypass the need for the ROM. ย Cardย Zeroย ย (talk) 21:58, 6 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Generate a report in Excel 2010

Is it possible to generate a report in Excel 2010? Say that I have a spreadsheet that stores my students' grades; it looks like Figure A below. Is it possible to generate six individual reports โ€” one for each student โ€” that display only that individual's row of data (i.e., grades), such as Figure B below? In other words, can I generate six individualized reports that look like Figure B, based on my spreadsheet that looks like Figure A? Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 23:40, 6 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Figure A - Raw data in Excel spreadsheet
Name Midterm Final Average Grade
Ann 97 77 80.3 B+
Bob 79 84 77.8 C+
Cindy 81 62 96.1 Dโ€“
Dave 64 83 72.5 Aโ€“
Edward 89 58 58.3 C+
Fran 62 99 88.1 Bโ€“
Figure B - Sample report (for Student #1, Ann)
  • Student Name: Ann
  • Midterm Exam Score: 97
  • Final Exam Score: 77
  • Overall Average: 80.3
  • Final Grade: B+

I used to do this with a mail-merge into a Word document. This allows easier formatting of the report. Dbfirs 00:08, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. But, I have no idea what that means ( ... mail-merge into a Word document ...ย ?). Can you explain? Thanks! Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 00:26, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
A mail merge is a function of word processing software like Word, which allows you to produce a large number of customised or personalised letters (or any document template) using an Excel file, CSV or database as a source. What the editor above is suggesting is that you set up a mail merge template in Word of how you would like the report laid out, then use the Excel file as a data source โ€“ you place the field names/column headings in the document so Word knows where to place the extracted data (e.g. "Student name: <<Name>>; Midterm exam score: <<Midterm>>", etc.), then Word will generate a report for each student by merging the Excel file into the template. See the Microsoft Office website for instructions. --Canley (talk) 04:31, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks! I tried this and it is the perfect solution. Works like a charm ... exactly what I wanted. Thanks so much for pointing me in this direction. I wish I knew about this mail merge function years ago! Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 15:34, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

By the way, can one create a mail-merge similar to the above ... but by merging an Excel spreadsheet file into another Excel spreadsheet? So, rather than having a Word file as the target in which to merge the Excel spreadsheet, I would have a separate Excel spreadsheet in which to merge the other Excel spreadsheet that contains the source data. Is this possible? Thanks! Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 15:40, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You can refer to a cell or cell range in another separate Excel workbook. It's called an "external reference". All you need to do is put the filename in the formula, like this:
=SUM('C:\Reports\[Budget.xlsx]Annual'!C10:C25)
"Budget.xlsx" is the external file (on the C drive in a folder called Reports), "Annual" is the worksheet in the Budget workbook, and C10:25 is the cell range. --Canley (talk) 11:05, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I almost suggested this above (or to a new sheet in the same workbook), but Excel can't merge a set of data into a new spreadsheet with the layout you need as elegantly as Word does using the merge function. You could achieve the same effect using a macro in Excel (learn VB), but it's already built into Word. Dbfirs 12:22, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
OK, great ... thanks for all the help! I very much appreciate it. Like I said, I wish that I knew about this "merge" capability and function years ago! Thank you. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 16:45, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I must admit that I was rather surprised that you hadn't met the concept before because I was teaching mail-merging more than 25 years ago (using Wordwise Plus). It ought to be part of any basic IT course (but often isn't). Let us know if you need any help with it. Dbfirs 17:10, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! I, too, am surprised by this. I don't know how I went so many years, without. I was doing so much of this (now) unnecessary work by hand. Ugh. After your posts above, I experimented with the Word mail-merge; it worked perfectly fine. The "problem" is that my document (that I want individualized for several different people) is already in Excel; and, more importantly, it formats nicer and better in Excel than in Word (independent of the whole mail merge function). I am going to see if I can (somehow) do an Excel-to-Excel merge. If I simply can't, I will have to "make do" with an Excel-to-Word merge. Thanks! Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 17:25, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Why not copy your document from Excel and paste it as a table into Word, thus preserving the formatting? The mail-merge can then use this document as its template. Dbfirs 08:14, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. Funny that you say that, as that was exactly was I was doing (or, rather, trying to do). My charts and tables format very nicely in Excel; they tend not to format (aesthetically) as nicely in Word, for some reason or another. I will have to go in and play around with it ... and familiarize myself more with Word tables. In fact, that is the sticking point. I am (relatively) fluent in Excel charts; but not fluent at all in Word tables. Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 11:45, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
PS. I did find a macro on line that does exactly what I was trying to do, merge Excel into Excel. It is here: Mail Merge โ€“ Without Word. Thanks. Joseph A. Spadaro (talk) 11:45, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the interesting link. You could just adapt that Excel macro (press alt+F11 to edit it) to your spreadsheet. Personally, I prefer Word for flexibility of layout, but if you've already got your layouts and charts in Excel, then it makes sense to do your merge there. Dbfirs 15:46, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. Again, thanks for all the above help. This mail merge function โ€“ regardless of the Excel-to-Word variety or the Excel-to-Excel variety โ€“ has opened up a whole new world to me. It is a life-saver, and I will be using it extensively. Thanks for opening up my eyes to this very powerful and helpful function. Much appreciated. Thanks! Joseph A. Why would you add such phrases if it is not for promotional purposes?
Please read "The five pillars of Wikipedia" - there is a link to the relevant page in the welcome message I have left on your talk page. stdout and stderr are there files too?

Everything is supposed to be a file. But how could I, say, output the head of one of those? OsmanRF34 (talk) 19:29, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This is probably a good starting point for you. You can redirect the stdout or stderr to a file, or to the stdin of another process: Redirection (computing). Katie R (talk) 20:54, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
No, as far as I can understand, stdout and stderr are not necessarily files. You might have heard "everything is a file" in connection with the Unix philosophy, but stdout and stderr are most commonly associated with C, which really is independent of Unix, although it shares close connotations and connections with it. Properly speaking, stdout and stderr are output streams. Where these streams are going to is supposed to be independent of the program. They could go to files, but they could just as well go to a console display, or even to an Internet connection. JIP | Talk 20:57, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Standard input and output streams can be treated like FILE pointers. However, some file operations will fail: for example, if you try to use fseek(stdin, 0, 0), the function will have no effect and will return error code EBADF because the stream is not seekable. When a unix programmer says "everything is a FILE," that is not the same as saying everything is a file. A unix programmer can only safely say everything is a FILE after they #include a standard library header - like stdio - that defines what a FILE is and how it is guaranteed to behave.
The principle at play here is that "FILE" is an abstraction of data that can be indexed serially. Any type of data can be indexed serially. If you have standard utility functions to deal with abstract serial data, without loss of generality, your utility functions must be able to report when some operations fail. If the file represents something that is not a series of data written to nonvolatile storage, and you try to treat it like that, then your utility functions will fail. If you write code that checks error-codes, and takes a reasonable action following an unexpected abstract error (whose root cause is unknown), then your program will work anyway. Nimur (talk) 23:54, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
As JIP points out, I think you're somewhat conflating files in the sense of C programming with files in the sense of the *nix kernel. Which, I grant you, the question does somewhat lend itself to, partially but not completely. --Trovatore (talk) 23:55, 7 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Right, they're not physical files on the disc, but from within C you can treat them like files. Looking at K&R's C book, 2nd edition, file access is covered in section 7.5 (pg 160). As far as C is concerned, they are files just like anything else, and the book words it "When a C program is started, the operating system environment is responsible for opening three files and providing file pointers for them. These files are the standard input, the standard output, and the standard error; the corresponding file pointers are called stdin, stdout, and stderr, and are declared in <stdio.h>. Normally stdin is connected to the keyboard and stdout and stderr are connected to the screen, but stdin and stdout may be redirected to files or pipes as described in Section 7.1." If you don't have that book yet, and plan on programming much C, then buy it. It is the standard reference for all sorts of C and C/Unix questions, and is very well written. I don't know a C programmer that doesn't have a copy on their shelf. Katie R (talk) 16:12, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
fseek(3) returns -1 on error, and the errno value I get is ESPIPE, not EBADF. (I don't remember what the C standard says here.) --Tardis (talk) 18:57, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, your clarification is actually worded more correctly than what I wrote above. I believe the value in "errno" depends on which C standard library is in use (e.g., a version of BSD libc, or a version of the GNU libc, or some other library from some other source). For example, here's fseek.c used on Mac OS X: it can set errno to several possible values depending on the type of failure. Nimur (talk) 22:48, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Inkscape question - making fills actually fill the area within the lines

I'm not sure why I can't find any info on the internet regarding this, but apparently it's not just me experiencing it. Inkscape colours between the lines at the level of a three year old. The fill always has a buffer of sorts between it and the paths surrounding it. The width of the buffer is dependent on the zoom level and the width of the path stroke. Even when two fills abut one another, there is a space between them.

So how do I get inkscape to fill like... well... every other piece of software ever made? - Floydianย ฯ„ ยข 00:39, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

There is a setting "Grow/Shrink by", make sure that's not a negative number. In fact, Ideally you'd make sure it was slightly positive. Also make sure that the "Threshold" is set to a small, but non-zero number.
However, what you're probably seeing is the stroke around the fill object. Inkscape is vector based, so it can't just flood-fill, it has to make a new shape that fills the gap. In Inkscape each object has a fill color and an outline (aka "stroke") color. Probably your fill object has the stroke set to clear. Just click on it, and change the stroke color like you would any other shape.
Hope this helps. APL (talk) 05:32, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with APL's assessment. Try creating a few squares. One with red outline and blue fill, one with red outline and red fill, and one with "no" outline (i.e. no stroke paint) and red fill. You can also fill with gradients, patterns, etc. but this will illustrate the basic concepts. As you move these objects over/under eachother, it should become clear how Inkscape is thinking of the vector objects. But the main point is that it is a vector graphics program. In this case,"flood fill" as in Gimp and MS Paint, etc doesn't really exist! For your purposes, you may want no paint on the edge strokes, and set the edge width to 0. If you don't care about displaying the result, many of the older vector supercomputers could probably turn an MPEG-2 data stream into a series of bitmaps in real time. --Carnildo (talk) 02:52, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
A custom graphics card shouldn't be that hard. Ie dual ported DRAM where one side is clocked with display frequencies. Electron9 (talk) 03:16, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Where can I download this specific Linux kernel version?

I'm compiling a device driver's source code which depends on Linux 2.6.32 and my current Linux distribution installed on my machine has a kernel of version "2.6.32.57". I tried to get the kernel source from git repo. but I can't find "2.6.32.57" or "2.6.32-57" in the repo. So does anyone knows where can I get "2.6.32.57" or "2.6.32-57" kernel source?

Some googling reveals this question on Stack Overflow. Apparantly you have to use git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git instead of Linus' repo to get these tags.
Alternatively you can get tars from kernel.org. --Tokikake (talk) 13:03, 8 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, it works!. - Justin545 (talk) 12:13, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
This is a frequently asked question, actually. If you mean 2.6.32-57, and not 2.6.32.57 - the hyphen makes a big difference! - then your kernel was modified by the distributor, based on 2.6.32. You will need to get the source from the distributor if you are concerned by the delta between 2.36.32 and 2.36.32-57. Nimur (talk) 15:58, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

FN Lock in Windows 8

I want my function keys to register as fn keys when pressed; at the moment, they register alternate functions (for example, f5 toggles the touchpad), and to get the fn I have to hold down the "fn" key next to ctrl. Instead, I'd like it so that if I wanted to toggle touchpad, I'd have to hold down fn and then press f5. Was this clear?

I know this is possible because somehow I did it on accident, but it went back to its old settings at some point, and Google isn't helping because its a hard question to phrase. Do you undesrtand what I want? 98.27.247.86 (talk) 02:20, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Youtube ersatz

With Google+ and other changes Google has introduced to Youtube, imho YT has lost its potential for being something that could approach the function of a public forum. I'm now looking, without any success so far, for a website that allows discussions/exchanges via video (not live streaming conference or anything, just good old flash-based video), plus text-based comments on those videos. I'm not looking for a place where William Ray Johnson would fit in, or a place where I can watch illegally uploaded material -- that's what Google's Youtube is for.

A second, related question is if anyone knows a forum site where users are empowered e.g. by giving trusted/established users the ability to be administrators on threads they opened (thus taking a more active role in shaping the discussion / weeding out trolling, spam and other unrelated comments etc). To the best of my knowledge, no such webforum exists, but I'd be happy to be proved wrong. --85.197.41.25 (talk) 04:08, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Calendar software for unpredictable sleep

I sleep very unpredictable hours, and would frequently be sleep-deprived if I set my alarm every day. But I'd like to adopt timeboxing or a similar strategy. Is there any calendar software that can automatically recalculate my timeboxes according to what time I actually wake up? NeonMerlin 06:53, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I don't think it's so straightforward. You might be thinking you can just push everything back, but some scheduled items involve other people or other constraints, so can't be moved. Then there are dependencies, where one item must be completed before another. I suggest you schedule something highly optional for the period you might sleep through, then hopefully you will be awake by the time you hit the important items.
I also have such a sleep pattern, so schedule important things for afternoon. StuRat (talk) 07:37, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Can BlueTooth 'peripherals' talk to each other?

I'm thinking about building a system where two bluetooth-enabled microcontrollers (let's call them 'A' and 'B') communicate with each other, compute some combined result and have 'A' send that result to a nearby phone/tablet/pc/whatever (let's call that 'C') - by emulating a bluetooth keyboard.

Does the bluetooth protocol allow for 'A' and 'B' to communicate with each other while 'A' (using the same bluetooth radio) also emulates a keyboard to talk to 'C' - or would 'A' need to have two bluetooth radios to do that? Can a typical bluetooth chipset maintain more than one radio connection at a time?

I can't install any software whatever onto 'C' - so the option of having both 'A' and 'B' talk to 'C' and letting 'C' compute the combined result is a non-starter for this particular application.

Does it make a difference if 'A' only listens to 'B' and only transmits to 'C' (is that even possible?)

Bluetooth uses a master / slave architecture. Each peripheral needs to pair with a controlling master, who could be responsible for routing messages to the destination. Our article mentions briefly that some alternative modes are defined, but those are esoteric, and I bet they're hard to implement using simple tools and easily-available software.
You could investigate alternatives, like ZigBee or ad-hoc 802.11 which are really designed for peer-to-peer communication. If you choose Bluetooth, you'll need a master device. Nimur (talk) 16:33, 9 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Unbreakable Access Denied

Basically, I've tried everything I've known, I've taken ownership, and set it to "everyone", everyone has "Total Control", but, I can't move it, it always gives me an Access Denied, I've also used the "Unblocker utilty, with the reboot checkbox and no luck. I've also killed most processes, and antiviruses. I really don't know why I can't read it, or move it. I can seem to move it between the drives folders, but I can't read it or move it to main drive. PS:I'm using windows 7, I'm using administrator permissions. --190.156.177.251 (talk) 03:17, 10 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]

What photo manipulating program is this?

[edit: Possible NSFW, just a model being altered, but the point of the video is work safe I think... anyway, just a heads up just in case bosses are flying about...) YouTube link here, time starts automatically at 27 seconds in. What program is this, does anyone know? The word "photoshop" is practically genericized, and as a user of the actual program Adobe Photoshop, I don't see any correlation. It doesn't appear to be PortraitProfessional either (though I could be wrong). Anyone know what program is being used here, where slices of image seem to be made and the program seems to automatically fill in the blanks with any alterations?Reflectionsinglass (talk) 06:34, 10 November 2013 (UTC)[reply]
