"What's the Difference"
Song

"What's the Difference" is a song by American rapper Dr. Dre from his second studio album, 2001 (1999). It features fellow rappers Eminem and Xzibit. The song is revolved around a sample from Charles Aznavour's 1966 song "Parce Que Tu Crois".

American recording artist Blu Cantrell sampled "What's the Difference" for her 2003 single "Breathe", featuring Jamaican rapper Sean Paul.

Conception

The song is revolved around a sample from Charles Aznavour's 1966 song "Parce Que Tu Crois".[1] Dr. Dre's verse refers to all his critics and all the people he has known (such as Snoop Dogg, Eazy-E, The D.O.C. and Ice Cube), Eminem's verse is about murdering his ex-wife Kim Mathers, and Xzibit's verse is similar to Dr. Dre's due to his rapping about all of his critics, except Xzibit is about trying to express his strong opinions towards the critics themselves. The whole song is asking the question "what's the difference" between the three rappers and us as listeners.

Live

"What's the Difference" was part of the setlist for Dr. Dre's Up in Smoke Tour. On some performances on the tour, Eminem said "nigger".[2]

Chart performance

As with a several songs on 2001, "What's the Difference" charted on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs, at number 76, due to radio play after the album was released.[3]
