Dueling Network (or shorter DN) is the online, unofficial, flash based simulation of Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game. It was founded by Christopher Salvarani on May 8, 2011. Since then, Dueling Network has gathered more than 3.500.000 registered users. The site is run by volunteers administrators and moderators. DN server allows for 9100 players to be online at the same time.
About
The owner, Christopher Salvarani, has founded DN on May 8, 2011 and officially released it on May 10, 2011. The site's popularity grew fast since then and in 2013 it counts more than three million of registered users. DN provides users with various messaging, in-game, systems. From the main menu of DN, players can access the Duel Room, construct decks, check their, or other players', rankings, view player profiles, edit their own profiles or change their account password.[1] The game is simulation of real-life card game and so it is played manually with very little automatic in-game systems.
Database and Gameplay
Dueling Network updates database of all available OCG and TCG cards in Yu-Gi-Oh!, as soon as they are officially confirmed by Konami. All updated cards are free to play. The game follows all official Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game rules. It is possible to play in following sections: Advanced Rated, Advanced Unrated, Traditional Unrated and Unlimited Unrated. To play in mentioned sections, players need to access Duel Room and choose the section they want to play in.
Advanced Rated
Section that keeps up with Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game forbidden/limited card list. In this section, players get matched up with each other by system called DN Pool. DN Pool is program that randomly pairs up together players who have similar win/loss ratio. Winner and the loser of duel, gain or lose some of their rating points, depending on the outcome of duel. Advanced Rated section is divided into single duels and matches (winner 2 out of 3).
For rating calculation, based on outcome of each duel, Dueling Network uses the following formula:
N = K *
(S_A - E_A)
where
K = scaling factor for rating adjustments
S_A = actual result of the game (1 for a win, 0.5 for a draw, 0 for a loss)
E_A = expected result of the game, determined by the relative ratings of the players (close to 1 for almost certain victory, close to 0 for almost certain loss, 0.5 for even match-up)[2]
Rankings
Rankings is the leaderboard of Dueling Network and it is divided into singles and matches section. It keeps track of achievements of Dueling Network's users.
Advanced Unrated
Section that keeps up with Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game forbidden/limited card list. Players get paired up by hosting matches or singles in hub of Duel Room. However, players' rating doesn't get changed by the outcome of unrated singles or matches in this section. Leaderboard for this section doesn't exist.
Traditional Unrated and Unlimited Unrated
Traditional Unrated and Unlimited Unrated, aren't following Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game forbidden/limited card list. Leaderboard for these sections doesn't exist.
Administrators
Since Dueling Network is manual[3] game, it is often that players find themselves in problems like: in-game ruling questions, glitch, in-game AFK performed by opponent, spam, in-game cheating or harassment. For fixing and dealing these problems, on Dueling Network there are administrators. There are 3 types of administrators on DN: regular (in-game) administrators ,senior administrators and head administrators. They all have both duties to moderate Dueling Network's Public chat and to answer calls to solve in-game issues. All administrators have ability and obligation to penalize DN users who broke rules, described in Dueling Network Terms of Use, by banning them from the game.
