FemTechNet is an online network of feminist scholars and activists, founded in 2013. It aims to inspire and coordinate a variety of projects relating to gender and technology. These include an online course on "Dialogues on Feminism and Technology" and an associated initiative, "Storming Wikipedia."[1]

The online course, DOCC 2013, is notable not only for its content but also for its innovative format, which has been described as "a new approach to collaborative learning."[2] Much has been made of the ways in which the course is an alternative to the trend towards Massive Online Open Courses, or MOOCs. In Inside Higher Education, it was characterized as a "Feminist Anti-MOOC."[3]

In Mother Jones, the "Storming Wikipedia" assignment has been portrayed as a response to Wikipedia's gender imbalance or its "Lady Problem."[4] The feminist website Jezebel likewise championed what it called an "awesome" attempt to combat "Wikipedia's boy's club problem."[5]
