Captain Jacob Angelus is the protagonist of Ground Control II: Operation Exodus. The player essentially plays through his perspective throughout the entire game. His personality is essentially catered to the ideal hero character. He is incredibly intelligent and his natural charisma draws notice from his superiors and close friends. His shrewd tactics eventually lead him to many victories against the Teran Empire, inspiring hope amongst the downtrodden NSA citizenry.

Background

  • Age: 27
  • Height: 6'1 ft
  • Weight: 90 kg
  • Birth Date: 045-2714
  • Training History: Recruited by NSA: 025-2731 at Fort Ike, Morningstar Prime. After graduating, he joined the NSA Officer Academy, Morningstar Prime

Profile

Like many children of the Second Stellar War, Angelus grew up an orphan in the NSA. Because he was an orphan, the NSA took him in the military at an early age and trained him in the arts of war. It was there that Angelus would create a new family, including his childhood friend Alice Mcneal.

Angelus quickly adapted to the soldiers life and seemed to thrive upon it. His superiors regarded him as a capable officer and tactician, especially because of his young age. However, the war eventually took its toll on young Angelus as he grew weary of the endless bloodshed and saw that the end of his people was coming soon.

Angelus graduated with top honors from the military academy and was recruited by the infamous 49th infantry regiment "The Death Express". The 49th had a merciless attitude toward new blood as they sent them off to be cannon fodder for the older generation. Angelus, however once again proved his worth in battle and in a short time garnered the respect of his peers. The veterans put their total trust in Angelus and followed his orders without question. This trust would eventually pay off as Angelus lead his company to numerous victories against the Terran war machine.

Eventually, Jacob's actions caught the attention of General Warhurst who assigned the young commander and his company to Major Douglas Grant. His task was to recapture Corollia Island, a place of tactical importance for the NSA. Angelus once again proved himself in battle by not only capturing the island, but forcing the Imperials to retreat in utter defeat. For his actions there, Angelus was promoted to Captain and given the command of his own company. He is currently assigned to Morningstar Prime where his skills will be used to bolster the defences there.

Notes

  • Angelus' voice work is contributed to Chris Edgerly.
  • Many reviewers criticized Angelus' accent saying that it was over the top and unnecessary, but the voice was actually inspired by rock singer and musician Billy Idol, whose accent is quite distinct.
  • Angelus' beret tends to change color throughout the game from red to blue.
  • During the second tutorial mission, Angelus exclaims "Deacon's Hell", an obvious homage to the commanders of the Order of the New Dawn in Ground Control.
  • In the mission "dead but dreaming" of the viron campaign Angelus says that the CSS Astris was "definetly made for crash a party", quoting the Major Sarah Parker from the first installment of the Ground Control series
