MS Mode is a Dutch fashion retailer operating over 400 stores in the Netherlands, France, Belgium, Spain, Germany and Luxembourg and was originally founded by Max Abram. The business originates from the Amsterdamse Albert Cuypmarkt but the first real store started off in 1964, in Rotterdam as Mantel Specialist only selling ladies' coats but today offers a wide range of size 'plus' fashionable women's clothing for the 35-55 age group. MS Mode differentiates itself by selling all sizes in the range of size 40-52 at the same price, and has a very customer friendly approach.
MS mode used to be called M&S which always caused confusion with British department store Marks & Spencer which uses M&S as an abbreviation of its name in advertising and signage. Although kept silent M&S won a law suit against Marks and Spencer in 2004, limiting Mark & Spender to expand in countries where M&S was present. When Coolcat founder Roland Kahn took over M&S in 2010, there was less interest in protecting the business to a department store and he sold the exclusive rights to the name 'M&S' to Marks & Spencer, and continued under the name MS Mode.
In the M&S period, M&S has been part of Maxeda (formerly Vendex KBB), which also owns the, Vroom & Dreesmann, and Bijenkorf department stores. Since the take over in 2010, MS Mode resides under Roland Kahn's Exelent Retail Brands, together with Coolcat, Wonder Woman, America Today and Sapph
