A Predictive Adaptive Response (or PAR) ,[1] is a concept from evolutionary biology. It is the choice of some genetic phenotype before it becomes adaptive. It is determined early in an organism's life among a number of options available in its genome. The choice is made to be adaptive later, but not at the time of decision, being based on immediately available environmental clues. These clues only predict traits the organism is likely to need later in life in order to survive and reproduce successfully.[2]
