THE NAME

"D.S.L." or "Damn Small Linux"

Operating System Benefits

The size and memory requirements are ideal for older, or small scale personal computers. This O.S. is sized at approximately 50MB and is noted for it's robustness.

Community Project

"DSL has grown into a large community project with many contributors, most notable Robert Shingledecker for the creation of the MyDLS system, DSL control Panel, and much more."

Minimal Requirements?

At the time of this writing, for i386 DSL you need at least 16 megs of ram to boot. This does not provide X windows functionality, only console (at boot run 'dsl 2' for console only). 24 megs is the recommended MINIMUM for X windows. Of course, the more ram the better, since thats where you're working, in ram.

You will find that with only the minimum of ram the most you will be able to do is use primarily the preinstalled software that comes with DSL.

No Luit In Damn Small

As the creator and current co-author of Damn Small Linux I can assure you that we are not basing our development on Luit Linux. Luit started life as a remaster of Damn Small.
