Telematic Control Unit(TCU), in Automobile industry, refers to that embedded system on board a vehicle which controls tracking of the vehicle. It specifically consists of a GPS(Global Positioning System) unit which keeps track of the latitude and longitude values of the vehicle, an external interface for mobile communication(maybe GSM/GPRS/LTE) which provides the tracked values to a centralized GIS(Geographical Information System) database server, an electronic processing unit, maybe a microcontroller, microprocessor or FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Arrays) which processes the information and acts on the interface betwen the GPS and mobile communication unit and some amount of memory for saving GPS values in case of mobile-free zones or to intelligently store information about the vehicle's sensor data.
