Web-based VoIP

Web-based VoIP uses a web page with audio input/output capabilities (typically using Flash, Active X, or Silverlight) to initiate a Voice over IP audio connection, rather than dedicated VoIP hardware or software. This can be used, for example, to connect a person visiting a company's web site to speak with a customer service representative without leaving the site or using a conventional telephone. It requires that the computer viewing the web page have connected speakers and microphone. When third-party ("cloud") servers are used (for example, a provider of web-based VoIP which sells services to several retailers) it is known as cloud telephony,[1] a type of cloud communications.

A VoIP connection is only one of several options for click to talk elements in web pages; others involve initiating a conventional telephone call from one end or the other.

Call flow

Caller goes to a webpage and find the destination the caller want to communicate, a caller will be required or without a login process for identification, then click the object from the webpage which already connect to a phone or IP number, meanwhile, caller will also automatically allocate a caller number to make the communication link to the call receiver.

Current market

Web-based VoIP can be used for any kind of web communication services, such as yellow page service, web conference, eMap, web toll free number or e-learning technology. The usage of web-based VoIP is increasing everyday and so with the number of products being released everyday. Recently, in an article written by Mark Gibbs, author at Network World, he mentioned about a new web-based VoIP product "Push2Call" that may out-beat the purpose of Click-to-call.[2]
