The Summer Science Program is a competitive six-week summer program on astronomy based on an research project in celestial mechanics. Results are submitted to the Harvard-Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics. Maartin Schmidt and the late Richard Feynman are noted visitors. A large number of alumni from the program eventually end up matriculating at prestigious institutions such as Caltech, MIT, and Ivy League schools.

Established in 1959, the Summer Science Program now takes place at two locations, New Mexico Tech in Socorro, and Happy Valley School in Ojai, California (northwest of Los Angeles). The curriculum is identical at the two campuses.
