Biosensors and Bioelectronics is a scientific journal published by Elsevier. While it has an emphasis on the fields of biosensors and bioelectronics, its editors also accept "reviews and papers of obvious relevance to the community".[1]
The journal was established in 1985 as the journal Biosensors, and obtained its current name in 1991. The journal was established by I. John Higgins (Cranfield University), W. Geoff Potter (Science and Engineering Research Council) and Anthony P.F. Turner (Cranfield University, later Linköping University), who became editor-in-chief, a position which he continues to hold today.
In 1990, the journal was complimented with an associated conference, Biosensors 90, chaired by Turner and organised by Elsevier in Singapore at the Mandarin Hotel. The World Congress on Biosensors continues today under the same chair.
The ISI 2011 Impact Factor for the journal was 5.602, making it not only highest impact journal in the field of sensors, but also the top journal in the ISI category of “Electrochemistry”. It also ranks second among the primary research journals in Analytrical Chemistry. Biosensors and Bioelectronics publishes mainly original research articles interspersed with regular reviews of topical areas in the field.
