Q3 2010
On April 2010, RIM announced the BlackBerry OS 6.0 version, which was released in the Q3 2010.[1]
It has now been superseded by version 10.00, but is still sold by Blackberry on its smartphones. This was an update to version 7.0 and added several new features compared to 7.0 including[3]
This was a brand new OS with the only similarity to the older versions being to BlackBerry branding. It uses the QNX kernel and drops backward compatibility with all previous versions and phones:
old OS apps will not work with it (even so it released with over 70,000 new apps made for it in BlackBerry World)
only available on the new Blackberry 10 series of smartphones (no upgrade path available from previous phones due to specific hardware requirements not satisfied in the older phones).
