The Algorithm is a music project of the Toulouse based French musician Rémi Gallego, combining electro with features of Progressive Metal . Gallego chose the name The Algorithm to highlight the music’s complexity and its electronic nature general. [1]

History

After Rémi Gallego’s former band Dying Breath disbanded, he decided in 2009 to look for potential members for a new band that would focus more on Mathcore, inspired by the band The Dillinger Escape Plan. After a futile search for new members, Gallegos began with his guitar and a digital audio workstation to produce his own music. [1] In December 2009 and July 2010, he released two demo tapes, The Doppler Effect and CRITICAL.ERROR, which were released on his website for free download. Gallegos announced in late 2010 that he began work on a new EP, but this was never completed. In addition, he prepared himself for his first live performance.[2] In August 2011, Rémi Gallego released a compilation entitled Method_ for free download, which was the songs of the previous two demos were put together. [3] This was followed in October 2011, a performance in Cologne at the annual Euro Blast Festival , where Gallego performaed alongside bands Textures , TesseracT and Vildhjarta.[4] A month later Mike Malyan, drummer for the band Monument , released a drum cover of the song Isometry , which he uploaded to YouTube. After this Gallego convinced Malyan that it would be possible to play the songs on a real drum kit, and Malyan began to accompany Gallego in live performances.[5] That same month Gallego signed a record deal with the British record label Basick Records . [6] In January 2012, Gallego published the single “Tr0jans” via Basick Records, which was only available digitally. It was followed by live performances in Karlsruhe, and at the UK tech Metalfest in London , where he performed along with other acts Uneven Structure and Chimp Spanner. [6] [7] On 19 November 2012 he released Polymorphic Code through Basick Records, the first full album to be released under The Algorithm’s name, which in addition to the song Tr0jans included an additional seven previously unreleased songs. In January 2013 Gallego played alongside Enter Shikari , and Cancer Bats at a concert in Paris . [8]

Style

For live performances Rémi Gallego uses an Akai APC40, a digital audio workstation produced by the company Akai , co-developed with the German company Ableton. [5] In addition, a distorted female voice can be heard on almost all publications, provided by Florent Latorre , a friend of Gallego. [1]
