Microsoft Excel Viewer is a freeware program for viewing and printing spreadsheet documents created by Microsoft Excel.[1] Excel Viewer is similar to Microsoft Word Viewer in functionality. There is not a current version for the Mac. Excel Viewer is available for Microsoft Windows and Windows CE handheld PCs, such as the NEC MobilePro.[2]

According to the terms of the Microsoft Excel Viewer 2003 license agreement, the software may be installed and used to view and screen print documents created with Microsoft Office software. The software may not be used for any other purpose.[3]

Online Excel Viewer

It is also possible to open excel files using certain online tools and services. The job of these online excel viewers is quite simple: they allow users to open excel spreadsheets inside the browser window, and it doesn't require users to have Microsoft Excel installed. Some of these online excel viewing tools also allow users to edit and share their files online. Below is a list of such sites:

  1. Google Docs: Google Docs is a popular web portal that allows you to open and view your excel files online
  2. Office Web Apps: Part of Windows Live offering; also integrated with Hotmail
  3. Zoho Excel Viewer: Zoho Viewer has an interface that reasonably resembles to Microsoft Excel. This service allows you to open, edit, save, share and even convert excel files to different formats.
  4. View Docs Online: This online service also allows you to open excel files, but its fast loading interface and easy user interface give it an edge over other excel readers.
