Merger proposal

(I'm abbreviating, but the actual article names are the spelled out versions.)

A TDRS is a satellite of the TDRSS overall system. I think we should move TDRS into the TDRSS article because there is lots of duplicated material in the TDRS/TDRSS articles. It would make the pages more elegant if they were combined, and I believe the master page should be the system TDRSS. Jonverve (talk) 15:45, 3 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

  • At this point, "TDRSS" is actually an archaic term. The Space Network consists of the TDRS satellites, supporting TDRS ground terminal systems, plus BRTS, MILA, and NCCDS. Really, a slight re-work should be done. Recommend using the Space Network article as a baseline, which uses currently accepted nomenclature (e.g. no references to "TDRSS", and uses "NEN" instead of "GN"), and pulling in pertinent sections of the TDRSS article. The TDRS (not TDRSS) article should stand by itself (with some editing) as it describes the Flight Segment of the Space Network. I may undertake this task. -- Geĸrίtzl (talk) 01:22, 10 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree with the merger proposal. I think there is a fair amount of redundancy, and the satellites and system can be described sufficiently in a single article. TrufflesTheLamb (talk) 01:10, 27 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I oppose merging the pages. I think that the TDRSS article should deal specifically with the system itself, and the TDRS article should deal specifically with the technical details of the satellites. --GW 11:01, 24 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • I agree with GW. This article is about satellites themselves, not the whole system. I think the TDRS article could use some expanding and updating, but overall I don't think it should be merged.--Navy blue84 (talk) 15:17, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Space Network

I removed the claim that TDRSS is analogous to Space Network. TDRSS is a part of the overall Space Network which includes ground stations as well.--RadioFan (talk) 21:14, 1 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
