Shiv Pratap Shukla (Template:Lang-hi born 1st April 1952) is an Indian politician and the Vice President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Uttar Pradesh. Mr Shukla was appointed to vice president of the BJP in September 2010 under the president-ship of Mr. Surya Pratap Shahi. He is also known for the works during his tenure as the Cabinet Minister in the state of Uttar Pradesh when he initiated Education for all scheme which tied together ten districts together for the first time and for reforms in jails for prisoners and various Rural Development Schemes.
Background, family and education
Shiv Pratap Shukla was born in Rudrapur, Uttar Pradesh, a village near Gorakhpur district, India, to Shri Rama Shankar Shukla and Smt. Parvati Shukla in a middle class Brahmin family hailing from Gorakhpur district. During his teens, he worked for the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad(ABVP) as student leader and was the Provincial Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha(BJYM) for Lucknow and Kanpur University. He is a law graduate from Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gorakhpur University . Shiv Pratap Shukla is married to Janki Shukla on 11th may 1980 and they have three daughters Priti, Niti and Shruti. He currently lives in Gorakhpur.
Political career
Early career
S.P.Shukla’s life as a politician started in early 70’s when he was the student leader of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and elected as the Provincial Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in 1981. He was several times Jailed in Student Agitation. During the emergency he was arrested under the Maintenance of Internal Security Act (MISA) and was in prison for 19 months from 26th june 1975 to 1977.
ABVP to Bharatiya Janata Party
Shukla fought the General Elections in year 1989 and was elected as member of Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly defeating Shri Sunil Shashtri of INC. He was elected as Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for 4 consecutive times in year 1989, 1991, 1993 and 1996 respectively.
Minister of state in the BJP government
Mr. S.P.Shukla was appointed as the cabinet minister in BJP government in year 1991 and was given in charge of the various departments like Minister for Basic Education, Minister for Yuva Kalyan, Minister for Sports, Minister for Horticulture Year 1991-1993. He was also appointed as the Minister for Jails, Minister for Law & Justice and Minister for Rural Development during years 1993-1996. He lost in the general elections of year 2002.

Appointment as the vice president of U.P.
In year 2010, he was appointed as the office bearers of BJP in U.P. and was given the post of vice president. This was the period when Surya Pratap Shahi was elected as the president. During this tenure, Mr. Shukla managed the framework structure of the general elections of Uttar Pradesh along with Shri Shahi. He also worked for various RATH YATRAS during this period like GANGA SMAGRA YATRA and JAN SWABHIMAAN YATRA, both in year 2012. He is still on the post till date
