Gas pyelogram
It is a plain X-ray in which kidneys, Renal Pelvis, Calyces and ureters are full of gas, and have a radiolucent Appearance.
This gas is produced by some gas producing micro organisms which infect mostly Upper parts of urinary system.
it's pathogenesis is unclear. this pathologic state is more common in diabetic patients that's why it is thought to be from fermentation of glucose by bacteria like E.Coli and as a result carbon dioxide gas is produced .
It is an emergency medical condition, most of the patients come with septic shock and it need prompt treatment with intensive care at the hospital.
patient should take a broad spectrum antibiotic, with plenty of fluid. If the kidney has it's function it should be treated medically and if it is non function, so nephrectomy should be don because in this state medical treatment is not enough lonely.
