Colin Robbins (software engineer)
Colin Robbins is a chartered director and a software engineer credited for research work in distributed directory systems. Colin Robbins holds a BSc, Computer Science & Electronic Engineering, with first class honours, from University College London.
Colin developed the Quipu / X.500 elements of the ISODE (ISO Development Environment), and went on to become the custodian of the open source ISODE platform. Colin wrote part 3 of the book "Implementing X.400 and X.500: the PP and QUIPU Systems" [1], and was a significant contributor to "The Little Black Book: Mail Bonding with OSI Directory Services"[2]. This work lead to the invention of LDAP - partly documented in the following two LDAP RFCs 1448 [3] and 1778[4] published by the IETF. Colin led the EEMA world directory challenge[5] and the Europe Wide Name-Flow Paradise[6] project, demonstrating the application of distributed directory systems. Other work on distrbuted directores has been published[7][8].
Professionally, Colin Robbins is chartered by the Institute of Directors[9], serving of the Boards of Nexor and the Information Assurance Advisory Council (IAAC[10]). He is co-chair of the Information Assurance Collaboration Group (IACG).
Colin is a fully qualified Water Polo coach, on the UK Amateur Swimming Association Advanced Coaching Programme[11]
