The FN FNS pistol is a series of semi-automatic, polymer-framed pistols manufactured in Columbia, SC, by FNH USA, a division of Fabrique Nationale d'Herstal.[5] The pistol is chambered for the 9x19mm Parabellum and .40 S&W cartridges.

Function & Design

The FNS pistol was built off of the FN FNX platform.[1] It uses similar erganomics but introduces a double-action, striker-fired functionality. Like other FN pistols, the FNS is a short recoil operated pistol.

Standard Features

The FNS series of the pistols all include ambidextrous safeties, magazine releases, and slide stop release levers.[6] In addition to the manual safety, the FNS has 4 additional safety features:

  1. A trigger safety, similar to that seen on a Glock, which prevents the weapon from discharging without pressure on the trigger.[6]
  2. A firing pin safety which prevents the striker from hitting the primer without the trigger being pulled.[6]
  3. A drop safety which prevents the sear from rotating to release the striker unless the trigger is pulled.[6]
  4. An out-of-battery safety which prevents the sear from releasing the striker if the slide is not fully forward.[6]

All variations also include a Picatinny rail, fixed three-dot night sights, and a loaded chamber indicator on the right side.[6]

Variants

As of December 2012, the only variants available of the FNS-9 and FNS-40 pistol have solely cosmetic differences. Both pistols are available in standard black or with a two-tone finish featuring a silver slide and matte black frame.[3]
