This essay, WP:Copy and paste, concerns the use of copy and paste to insert text into a page. For years, Wikipedia had a bottom section during an edit-preview to show various markup and special characters to copy/paste onto a page.

The following is the copy/paste section which appears during an edit-preview of a page in browsers without JavaScript.

When JavaScript is enabled, this is replaced with a smaller box with a selector for the various sections, and each character may be clicked to insert it into the editing field.
If the CharInsert gadget is disabled in Preferences → Gadgets, the box is entirely hidden. This may also occur if gadget loading fails due to network errors or software bugs.
