Common Management Interface Protocol (CMIP) is a protocol for network management, it defines the communication between network management applications and management agents. CMIP is based on the Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) model and is part of the X.700. It was designed to replace SNMP.

CMIP is defined in RFC 1095 and 1189 (The Common Management Information Services and Protocols for the Internet) - http://asg.web.cmu.edu/rfc/rfc1189.html
