Proposals, October 2012

Please check how many articles qualify for a stub type before proposing it.

If (after approval) you create a stub type, please be sure to add it to the list of stub types. This page will be archived in its entirety once all discussions have been closed; there is no need to move them to another page.

NEW PROPOSALS

Propose this new parent-only category. Under Category:Mass media stubs, we have a handful of country-based media categories, and its very hit and miss. Propose also creating categories and templates as needed for the larger countries. The categories would collect up the various radio, tv, newspaper, and magazine stub categories and templates for each country.

"Mass media stubs by country"

Should this be under Category:Country Name media stubs or Category:Demonym media stubs? (example, Category:United States media stubs or Category:American media stubs). So far, all but one use the country name. Dawynn (talk) 12:48, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

Support and I think it's better at the denonym. SeveroTC 13:22, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
I like the idea of many more national media stubs, although a bit uncertain if some of the smaller/less covered countries in that list are ready for this (PNG, Djibouti, Suriname, and many others on that list will be lucky to have more that one or two mass media stubs). How did you compile the list? I notice it's not all countries, but it's quite a few of them.
For the names, the permcats use demonyms, as do most of the existing children in this tree, so I'd suggest going with that and renaming the existing few. I couldn't find any discussion where country names were decided on for the existing names.
Also note the Category:Broadcasting stubs that exist for 4 countries which largely overlap with these. Would the long term plan be for media to supercede and replace those, or to simply contain them? (For the big three it might be a usful way of subdividing a big media category, not so much with Mexico). --Qetuth (talk) 13:32, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

I would like to create a category for the {{Romania-newspaper-stub}} template under the category Category:Romaina newspaper stub I searched and there are over 54+ articles that have that template. --Clarkcj12 (talk) 22:19, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

We are at 57 articles so create three more stubs and we get to 60 - the threshold for category creation :) SeveroTC 22:55, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
With Category:European newspaper stubs having that many, we couldeven do it without creating more stubs, IMO. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 05:26, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
Looks like other countries use the demonym. So, propose Category:Romanian newspaper stubs instead. Dawynn (talk) 12:50, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

Category:New Zealand biologist stubs

I propose creating Category:New Zealand biologist stubs/{{NewZealand-biologist-stub}} (the category will also catch the existing {{NewZealand-botanist-stub}}) - a quick scan finds 64 stubs for this category. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 20:59, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

I propose creating Category:Prehistoric lobe-finned fish stubs and {{paleo-lobefinned-fish-stub}} to catch these, removing them from the oversized Category:Prehistoric bony fish stubs. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 06:07, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

Support - indeed, the Category:Prehistoric bony fish stubs is very, very big. --Fabio Descalzi, aka Fadesga (talk) 14:44, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

Prehistoric cartilaginous fish stubs

Hi there. I have been going through the Category:Prehistoric fish stubs and there seem to be a lot of cartilaginous fish there, as this search shows. I think it is time to create the category:Prehistoric cartilaginous fish stubs. Regards, --Fabio Descalzi, aka Fadesga (talk) 20:42, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

Support, along with a double-upmerged (for now) {{paleo-shark-stub}} to catch these. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 05:53, 31 October 2012 (UTC)

Comic book film stubs

There are currently 168 stub articles about comic book related films. Not all of these articles are tagged, and there is no one stub tag that would cover all the articles. I propose the creation of a {{Comics-film-stub}}, which would populate either Category:Comics film stubs or Category:Comic book film stubs. The category would be a child of both Category:Film stubs by genre and Category:Comics stubs. Fortdj33 (talk) 19:39, 30 October 2012 (UTC)

It looks fine, but I'm a bit confused as to why there isn't a permcat for this? SeveroTC 22:34, 30 October 2012 (UTC)
I can start tagging the appropriate articles anytime, but what permcat should the articles be placed into? Fortdj33 (talk) 00:27, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
It's not a requirement (although it does help), I'm just surprised that there isn't a Category:Comic book films. SeveroTC 22:58, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
There is already a Category:Films based on comics, though I'm not sure that it is the appropriate permcat for this stub. I'm just debating whether the category associated with {{Comics-film-stub}} should be titled Category:Comics film stubs or Category:Comic book film stubs. The former fits better as a sub-category of Category:Comics stubs, while the latter fits better in Category:Film stubs by genre, but the new category should probably be in both... Fortdj33 (talk) 03:04, 1 November 2012 (UTC)
See Category:Superhero films, which is a subcat of action films which we have a stub cat for. How many of these 168 would be covered by this, and would it be better to follow the permcats in this case? --Qetuth (talk) 12:37, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
There is not a stub category that covers all the stub articles in Category:Superhero films. Yes, some of them overlap, but films like Batman Fights Dracula, Iron Man: Rise of Technovore and Stamp Day for Superman have three completely different film stub tags, when all of them could be covered by {{Comics-film-stub}}. The same stub tag could also be used for films based on comics that are not about superheroes, such as 26 Years, Gundala and Skippy. Fortdj33 (talk) 14:08, 31 October 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, I was not saying there was a stub category for superhero films - The point I was trying to make is that Superhero films is part of the Category:Films by genre tree which we already split stubs by, and so might be a better scope for a new stub category than Comics, which is part of the Category:Films based on works tree which we never have used with stubs before. --Qetuth (talk) 13:44, 1 November 2012 (UTC)

Indian Theatre Stubs

India has rich and current tradition of theatre related activities and structures. I am proposing the following:

The aim is to further expand these will state-specific stubs in the future. Thanks. -MK 16:05, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

{{India-theat-stub}} (as per {{theat-stub}} et al). Not sure on Category:India theatre stubs or Category:Indian theatre stubs, but either would require a minimum 60 articles. SeveroTC 16:39, 29 October 2012 (UTC)
Support. Although current regional theatre stub cats are split 2 and 2 on the issue, I think Category:Indian theatre stubs would be better (when 60 found), to match Indian culture stubs, Indian film stubs, etc. --Qetuth (talk) 23:06, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

Mosque templates

Sarcopterygii

We have full categories for String, Woodwind, Percussion, and Electronic. Propose starting with an exploratory template for Brass, category if sufficient articles found. Dawynn (talk) 10:35, 28 October 2012 (UTC)

Beryciformes stubs

I have been going through the Category:Fish stubs and the Category:Ray-finned fish stubs. I have seen a lot of Beryciformes. What about creating a Template:Beryciformes-stub and a Category:Beryciformes stubs? Greetings, --Fabio Descalzi, aka Fadesga (talk) 22:02, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

Support template, category if sufficient articles found. I approve the category name, but please hold off on building the category until 60+ articles tagged. Dawynn (talk) 13:51, 27 October 2012 (UTC)
I guess the moment has come to create the Category:Beryciformes stubs, as the number of stubs is already over 60. Regards, --Fabio Descalzi, aka Fadesga (talk) 00:40, 29 October 2012 (UTC)

British act of parliament stubs

Both Category:United Kingdom law stubs and Category:Statute stubs are oversized. It looks like there are around 450 articles in their intersection. Propose {{UK-statute-stub}} and Category:United Kingdom Acts of the Parliament stubs to hold these. Not sure if there is a better category name though. The permcat is at Category:Acts of the Parliament of the United Kingdom, whereas the only existing sibling is at Category:United States federal legislation stubs. --Qetuth (talk) 17:17, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

In general, support. The problem in the naming comes from the permcats reflecting the legal status of the parliament - that of England, Great Britain, the UK and also of Northern Ireland and the two incarnations of the parliament in Scotland. Will the new types cover all the parliaments? Or are they restricted to the parliament from 1801 onwards? If the former, perhaps Category:United Kingdom statute stubs: if the later, perhaps Category:Acts of the Parliament of the United Kingdom stubs. SeveroTC 12:46, 22 October 2012 (UTC)
