Government College of Engineering and Ceramic Technology (GCECT), formerly known as College of Ceramic Technology (CCT), is a government funded & recently upgraded to a "UGC AUTONOMOUS post graduate institute" , affiliated to the West Bengal University of Technology in Kolkata, India. It offers engineering courses in Ceramic Technology, Computer Science & Engineering and Information Technology.After gaining autonomy, it has also introduced M.Tech courses in Information Technology, apart from in Ceramics.

Administration

The college is under the Directorate of Technical Education, Govt. of W.B., which takes an active part in overall policy matters and certain financial sanctions. The college has recently gained autonomy to deal with many financial matters and the overall management is guided by a ‘Governing Body’ consisting of very eminent people from the industry and the Government, which is headed by a renowned industrialist Shri. S. K. Ghosh who is also an ex-student of this college.Now being offered autonomy, the college has gained the liberty to design & modify its syllabus, organize semester examinations and their evaluation & introduce special seminars on various topics.

History

It was established in the Year 1941, by Professor Sasadhar Ray, a student of eminent physicists, Satyendra Nath Bose and Kariamanickam Srinivasa Krishnan.

This is one of the oldest Ceramic College in India.[citation needed]

Admissions

Admission is through the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examination (WBJEE) conducted by the West Bengal Joint Examination Admissions Board (WBJEEB).

Lateral admissions are through the Joint Entrance Examination of Lateral Entry (JELET), also conducted by WBJEEB.

Academics

The college specializes in Ceramic Technology.

GCECT offers four year under-graduate degree courses in the following three disciplines:

  • B.Tech in Ceramic Technology
  • B.Tech in Computer Science and Engineering
  • B.Tech in Information Technology

It also provides post-graduate courses:

  • M.Tech in Ceramic Technology

Placement

The department of ceramic technology has a 100% placement record.[citation needed]
The department of CSE and IT has no placement guarantee.

Achievements

Student Life

The students union is an association of the students that acts as a focal point of the activities of the students. Elections are held to decide the office bearers of the group.

The college provides hostel facilities to male students with limited accommodation. The hostel is located just opposite the college campus.

There is a field in front of the main college building where the students play football and cricket.

The best thing about the college is the relation between senior and junior students. After leaving the college also almost every senior are in touch with the juniors giving them valuable informations about the jobs, companies,higher studies.
