About Page Curation

Curating new pages is a hard job, but an important one. Page Curation tries to make it easier.

Page Curation is a tool divided into two parts: the New Pages Feed, and the Curation Toolbar.

The New Pages Feed is designed to supersede Special:NewPages, which has now been in use in pretty much the same form for 6 years. Through the New Pages Feed, curators can pull up a list of newly created articles, and then filter them according to their needs - only showing pages that have not been checked, for instance, or that were created by new editors.

This can then be sorted to show the oldest or newest first, and shows you (next to the entry for each article) messages about it - highlighting if it is unreferenced or has no categories, for example.

The feed also lets curators see information about page curation as a whole, showing the number of articles still yet to be reviewed and the age of the oldest one. It also features the removal of the "30 day limit", meaning that if pages are not reviewed, they will not drop off the list.

The Curation Toolbar, on the other hand, isn't really superseding anything - except possibly Twinkle. Using Special:NewPages, curators were not given any assistance once they actually looked at an article, and were forced to rely on a gadget if they wanted an easy way to tag articles, nominate them for deletion or interact in a way that didn't involve just hitting "mark as patrolled".

The Curation Toolbar allows curators to review articles, tag them, and nominate them for deletion, with a clear and easy-to-use interface. It also features several components that Twinkle does not, including an "info" flyout that allows you to see information about the page and its history without ever leaving it, and an easy way to send the creator a message.
