Proposals, August 2012
Please check how many articles qualify for a stub type before proposing it.
If (after approval) you create a stub type, please be sure to add it to the list of stub types. This page will be archived in its entirety once all discussions have been closed; there is no need to move them to another page.
NEW PROPOSALS
A few more speediable sport cats
Yes a few more templates have gone past the 60 mark
- {{Belarusia-Olympic-medalist-stub}} requires Category:Belarus Olympic medalist stubs
- {{Croatia-Olympic-medalist-stub}} requires Category:Croatian Olympic medalist stubs
- {{US-handball-bio-stub}} requires Category:American handball biography stubs
that's all for today. Waacstats (talk) 19:08, 30 August 2012 (UTC)
Another template passes 60, any objections to a category. Waacstats (talk) 14:45, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
{{Kyrgyzstan-footy-bio-stub}} has passed 60. Also the following
Waacstats (talk) 09:39, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
Various templates make up a total of 60 articles anyone against a category? Waacstats (talk) 14:44, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
Alpine skiing
A proposal for sports categories that has nothing to do with London 2012! Alpine skiing stubs is looking a bit large (over 600) we already have templates for Italy, US and Canada but no categories, given that each template appears to have over 100 transclusions, I think it is about time for
- Category:American alpine skiing biography stubs
- Category:Canadian alpine skiing biography stubs
- Category:Italian alpine skiing biography stubs

More field hockey bio stubs
The other two nations that played during the 2012 Olympics also now warrant templates, and possibly categories (iff 60), so I propose:
- {{Belgium-fieldhockey-bio-stub}} & Category:Belgian field hockey biography stubs (~50)
- {{SouthAfrica-fieldhockey-bio-stub}} & Category:South African field hockey biography stubs (~80)
SeveroTC 10:24, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
- Again all loooks good. Waacstats (talk) 08:16, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
Polish sportspeople
- Category:Polish rowing biography stubs for {{Poland-rowing-bio-stub}} which has passed 60.
- {{Poland-icehockey-bio-stub}} which will now take 30 articles (double upmerged to Category:European ice hockey biography stubs).
SeveroTC 09:28, 20 August 2012 (UTC)
- Everything looks good to me Waacstats (talk) 06:48, 22 August 2012 (UTC)
Following the recent Olympics {{SouthKorea-fieldhockey-bio-stub}} has passed 60, category is now viable. Waacstats (talk) 17:34, 19 August 2012 (UTC)

{{shipwreck-stub}}
For articles about historic shipwrecks (as opposed to articles about ships that happened to be wrecked). I don't know exactly how many articles this template would apply to, but I run into them frequently. Might not be 60, though, so propose upmerge to ship-stub, which is what most of them are tagged with anyway. DoctorKubla (talk) 11:10, 17 August 2012 (UTC)

Comics company stubs
In sorting the stub-class comics articles into Category:Comics stubs, I see the need for additional stub types and sub-categories, before the parent category gets too big. There are currently almost 700 articles with the generic {{Comics-stub}}, and I am only through the C's alphabetically in tagging stub-class comics articles. I will add more here, as other necessary stub types become apparent, but I propose the creation of:
- Category:Comics company stubs with {{Comics-company-stub}}: 233 articles that are children of Category:Comics publishing companies. Could be even larger, if populated from Category:Publishing company stubs as well (449 articles).

Telephony stubs
I propose creation of {{telephony-stub}} and Category:Telephony stubs, the latter being a subcat of Category:Telecommunications stubs and Category:Telephony. The telecomm stubs category is much too large and needs to be split up. According to CatScan, there are about 200 telecomm stubs that could be put into the new stub category instead.[1] Category:Telephone number stubs should be made a subcategory of the new stub category; its template would be unchanged.--Srleffler (talk) 05:23, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- I'm not sure the distinction between telephony and telecommunications is clear enough to make this more than an arbitrary distinction to split a large category in half - looking at the telephony category tree, it seems very broad (and closer to 300 stubs when you add more depth to the search). But if we can't find a better option, maybe it'll have to do. --Qetuth (talk) 12:57, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
- Telecommunications is a much broader category than telephony. Telecommunications includes broadcasting, particularly radio and television. It also includes data transmission, including the Internet and wireless networking. None of these things is "telephony". Splitting off telephony will take a big chunk out of the overpopulated telecomm stub category, but it is also a sensible way to divide the topic.--Srleffler (talk) 03:30, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
- Based upon the permcats, it looks good to me. SeveroTC 10:30, 21 August 2012 (UTC)
- Most of these things are already split off: we have Category:Broadcasting stubs, Category:Television stubs, Category:Radio stubs, Category:Internet stubs, Category:Wireless stubs as subcats already. But point taken... --Qetuth (talk) 11:39, 25 August 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, although note that the TV and radio stub categories you listed are not going to be the most appropriate sub-stubs for most things that might otherwise be in Category:Telecommunications stubs. The correct stubs would more often be {{tv-tech-stub}} and {{radio-comm-stub}}. Given that those stubs already exist, a stub for telephony seemed like the next most reasonable choice for subdividing the content. I don't see any other good options for new sub-stubs.--Srleffler (talk) 20:05, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

We already have Category:American long-distance runner stubs without a higher level generic category, or even template! Propose the template and category for gathering athletes from other countries. Given that we already have an American category, the generic category is needed for proper structure. I would think we should be able to fill it from the perm Category:Long-distance runners. Dawynn (talk) 01:19, 14 August 2012 (UTC)
- Support --Qetuth (talk) 05:17, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
- The history behind the American category is that it was passed 800 and the only split that seemed reasonable was by event, so we created templates for each event and split out those events that passed 60. Though I wouldn't !Vote against this, some reasons why I would be against this split, It would almost certainly lead to oversized category, It would lead to some athletes being categorized in here but not under there country and others vice-versa leading to confusion. Waacstats (talk) 17:31, 19 August 2012 (UTC)
Further split of language stubs
Some of the subcats of Category:Language stubs have grown a little large. Propose the following sub-families:
- {{Bantu-lang-stub}} / Category:Bantu language stubs to take about 500/1200 out of Category:Niger–Congo language stubs
- Move Category:Swahili stubs to be a child of this. (Swahili is part of the Bantu family)
- {{Madang-lang-stub}} / Category:Madang language stubs to take about 100/700 from Category:Papuan language stubs
- Split of Category:Indigenous languages of the Americas stubs for biggest 4 families I could find, templates plus cats if 60 stubs found, upmerge otherwise:
- {{Arawakan-lang-stub}} / Category:Arawakan language stubs (main:Category:Arawakan languages)
- {{Tupian-lang-stub}} / Category:Tupian language stubs (main:Category:Tupian languages)
- {{Macro-Jê-lang-stub}} / Category:Macro-Jê language stubs (main:Category:Macro-Jê languages)
- {{Oto-Manguean-lang-stub}} / Category:Oto-Manguean language stubs (main:Category:Oto-Manguean languages)
Note that most of the top level families have initialised stub prefixes (eg {{nc-lang-stub}} for Niger-Congo stubs), but the existing subdivisions all then go to full names (eg {{WestChadic-lang-stub}}). As the four american families listed are all top level families, perhaps initials would be better for those? (mj- annd om- are obvious, not sure about the others) --Qetuth (talk) 07:54, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
Additional proposal to add to above: {{sign-lang-stub}} for the assorted sign language and manual alphabet stubs, double upmerged to Category:Deafness stubs. Category:Sign language stubs if 60 found. --Qetuth (talk) 08:08, 14 August 2012 (UTC)

- Support all of these, assuming they will each be non-empty for countries of that size (ie, no need to make a rail transport stub for a country with no rail system). The Continent ones are a great idea to standardise. --Qetuth (talk) 05:23, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
