The Public Library of Science is an non-profit scientific publishing project aimed at creating a library of scientific journals and other literature under an open content license.

The content will not be completely free content, as the project states that: "The only constraint on reproduction and distribution, and the only role for copyright in this domain, should be to give authors control over the integrity of their work and the right to be properly acknowledged and cited."

They intend to start full operation in late 2003.
