Defense Distributed is a open-source group that is attempting to design a firearm that may be downloaded from the internet and "printed" on a 3-D Printer.[1]

The goal of the group is to develop design schematics that would enable "a working plastic gun that could be downloaded and reproduced by anybody with a 3D printer."[2]

As of August 2012, the group is attempting to raise US$20,000 via a crowd-funding appeal to support the completion of the design of the first firearm and enable them to rent a high-end 3D printer.[1][2]
