Koderi
Koderi is one among the Badaga Hattis, or hamlets of the Nilgiri hills, located at a distance of 15 kilometers from Coonoor and 20 kilometers from Ooty. Koderi is a part of the porangadu seemai, one of the four seemes of the Nakku Betta ("four mountains"). Later on due to some reason koderi was added to "merkunadu seemai". Koderi is one of the village of thuhoor. Six generation back one Iyya came from thudhoor and built this hatti. Koderi itself is divided into two smaller hattis, namely, Mel Koderi (Upper Koderi) and Kil/Kiye Koderi (Lower Koderi). The nearest picnic spot from Koderi is Kodaparai which is famous for its rock temple in which the rock resembles the shape of an umberlla.
The primary occupation of the koderi people is tea plantation. Khenda habba is the main festival of Mel Koderi. On this day the people of this hatti wear the sacred jangura thread. They pray to Shiva and seek his blessings. Mari Abba, the festival of goddess Mari, takes place in Kiye Koderi annually. Hethai Habba and mari habba are the important festival in kiye koderi. both the habba's are celebrated for 3 days. In Hethai Habba, sunday our girl(hethai) who got married kookal Iyya will be invited to her village(natta maney) and we greet her. On monday, we go to thudhoor(our native) and worship Lord Shiva(Malingaiyya) and will return back to hatty on the same day. On Tuesday(last day) we will send her back to kookal(husbands hatti).
