What about the two versions of the song? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.6.223.36 (talk) 05:36, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
If Guthrie wrote the song, and I would assume performed it, wouldn't it be his song and the Murphy's version a cover? 72.245.29.249 (talk) 11:02, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
- The Dropkick Murphys article implies that it was originally a poem. 65.96.201.130 (talk) 22:33, 24 March 2009 (UTC)
- Guthrie is known to have left behind hundreds of sets of song lyrics behind when he died, without any accompanying musical scores. Billy Bragg and Wilco set two albums worth to music, and this was the second song that DKM had done the same for. Although Guthrie may have performed some of these songs at some point, he did not record any of them -- ChrisTheDude (talk) 15:51, 13 October 2009 (UTC)
accuracy of lyric
Is it actually "climbing up the topsail"? Why not "clewing up the topsail"? Clewing up a sail has an actual nautical meaning. You can't climb up a topsail. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.240.63.33 (talk) 03:58, 24 December 2011 (UTC)
Recurrency
can someone explain how this song went recurrent so quickly? according to here ( http://www.billbaord.com/bbcom/esearch/searchResult.jsp?exp=y&Ntt=i%27m+shipping+up+to+boston&Ntk=Keyword&an=bbcom&nor=10&Ntx=mode+matchallpartial&N=37 ), the song was #1 on the bubbling under chart on march 10, 2007. on march 24, 2007, the song was #24 on the hot single recurrents chart. it peaked at #15 on the 31. this is really bugging me haha so if someone could explain the situation then that'd be great. icelandic hurricane #12(talk) 01:42, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
Worth mentioning under sporting events?
The Brisbane Lions Australian Football Club are currently using the song for their promos in Brisbane for home games at The Gabba (Brisbane Cricket Grounds). Is that worth mentioning in the article? Street walker (talk) 13:50, 25 April 2010 (UTC)
