I am curious as to why me translating a Spanish Language article from http://es.wikipedia.org, into English is not an adequate. This Spanish Language website can be accessed via http://www.wikipedia.org/, which is where http://en.wikipedia.org is located. Does http://es.wikipedia.org not share the same probity in its soucres as that of http://en.wikipedia.org? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.132.176.143 (talk) 08:33, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Spanish and English Wikipedia are two different projects with different standards. Anyways, the article needs references to prove notability. See referencing for beginners. A412 (TalkC) 13:56, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

Could you please let me know why the actual references are not enough and let me know what you do expect me to do in order to have proper references? Thank you.

Best regards,

Cedric. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cedric71 (talkcontribs) 12:55, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

The references are not enough to prove notability- see the golden rule. To prove notability, the article needs sources that are independent- i.e. not from the company itself, and that discuss it in detail- i.e. not Alexa. While these can be used to reference material, they do not add up to notability. A412 (TalkC) 13:59, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

New article on Libertarian Paternalism 2

Hi,

I recently posted a question here but feel it was not answered. I optimistically give it another try! Here is the question:

"Hi, I recently created a new article/entry on Libertarian Paternalism. I have written a PhD thesis on related stuff and currently lead a research project on libertarian paternalism in particular financed by the EU commission. In brief, I am an expert on this. The review of my article said I should withdraw it and instead improve on the article on Soft Paternalism. However, though "soft paternalism" is sometimes used to refer to Libertarian Paternalism, this is very much a minority practice. Soft paternalism has two main uses, one of which has some overlap with Libertarian Paternalism. I have edited the entry on Paternalism to reflect this fact. Ideally, what should happen is for the article on Soft paternalism to be removed, as this concept is now treated in the entry on Paternalism. Also, the existing entry on Soft Paternalism as I said reflect a minority view. The definition cited at the beginning of the article refers to an article in The Economist, hardly a very authoritative source in this context."

I also added this piece of information for context:

"I explained all this to my reviewer (User:Tom Morris) on his talk page but it seems he choose to simply delete my questions and suggestions. In any case they are no longer on his talk page and there is nothing on my talk page to explain what may have happened.

Please advice. I am rather new to editing Wikipedia but believe I could do some good if I just get over these stumbling blocks. Thank you. Filofil (talk) 14:31, 14 April 2012 (UTC)"

Below is the answer I got. It notes that part of the new entry on Libertarian Paternalism is more or less copied from the text in the Soft Paternalism entry. I don't see why this is a problem, and it is anyway not related to my question. I know there is an entry on Soft Paternalism that partly deals with Libertarian Paternalism. For example the copied section, that is why I copied it. However, the name of this entry is misleading, the entry is neither about Soft Paternalism as this phrase is most typically understood, nor on Libertarian Paternalism. I hope you can see the problem here? I'm just trying to provide a solution but feel a bit frustrated that it is being opposed for reasons I fail to see. (Psychologically speaking this tends to make me feel like an outsider having stumbled into a world of people rather protective of "their" bits of text and of "the way we usually do things around here". But I try to tell myself this is just my subjective impression caused by anxiety in the face of this system and community that I don't yet understand.)

The only thing DCS says in relation to my question is that since the two entries have one section of text in common they cannot be different enough to deal with two different things. This is obviously just a logical mistake (the sequence 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and the sequence 1, 2, 3, 5 contain many of the same elements but one is the start of the sequence of natural numbers, the other the start of the sequence of prime numbers (and these two things should have two separate entries, as they do)).

It would also be interesting to learn more about norms regarding the attribution of text sections to wiki authors when text is moved, in relation to DCS:s comment, but this is not my main concern.

"Filofil,
There are no secrets on the Wiki and there is a record of everything.  I have reviewed the comments from User:Tom Morris and I have to agree with the him.  But I find even more of a problem, your example is almost a word for word duplicate of the example from Soft paternalism.

Consider the default contribution rates on defined contribution tax-deferred retirement savings plans in the United States. Until recently, the default contribution rate for most plans was zero, and despite the enormous tax advantages, many people took years to start contributing if they ever did. Behavioral economists attribute this to the "status quo bias", the common human resistance to changing one's behavior, combined with another common problem: the tendency to procrastinate. Research by behavioral economists demonstrated, moreover, that firms which raised the default rate instantly and dramatically raised the contribution rates of their employees.

As an example, take the default contribution rates on defined contribution tax-deferred retirement savings plans in the United States. — Soft paternalism
I'm not suggesting that you copied from that article, each article cites a different reference.  But, if both articles cite exactly the same example, I can't see that there could be enough difference between the two that there needs to be a separate article.  I suggest talking with the people here, Portal:Libertarianism, before you resubmit your article.    :- ) DCS 05:09, 15 April 2012 (UTC)"[reply]

I will try to follow up on the suggestion to talk to Portal:Libertarianism, though libertarians typically (and correctly) think that Libertarian Paternalism is not a form of libertarianism.

i created a post "ISMAILKHANPET" in wikipedia few days ago and you people denied it, i don't know the reason why you did this. ISMAILKHANPET is a village which has Famous temple located — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.82.243.101 (talk) 20:58, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Looks like the reason was clearly indicated by the reviewer and clarification was provided via the link provided. Independent and reliable sources that provide coverage of the village are required to establish its notability; the only source provided thus far is not independent and arguably provides no coverage. The other ONCE Composers have a separate articles in Wikipedia. You will find separate articles on ONCE Composers Gordon Mumma, Roger Reynolds and Robert Ashley. The only major ONCE Composer without a separate article focusing on his work his Donald Scavarda. I believe that Donald Scavarda deserves his own listing just as the other composers.

I would like to request to have someone re-consider this matter. The other ONCE composers are very supportive of the idea that Donald Scavarda have an entry in Wikipedia. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mchard12 (talkcontribs) 22:18, 5 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

What the ONCE composers want is largely irrelevant, wether this submission complies with policy is expressly relevant. I can't make an accurate assessment of the subject's notability because the references are all over the place. See WP:REFB for help with references. This notwithstanding, the submission is not written from a neutral point of view. If you reformat the references properly and fundamentally re-write the submission to comply with the policy on neutrality, then it may be accepted. Pol430 talk to me 23:36, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

how do i upload a few pics on this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Jessejameskid (talkcontribs) 14:50, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

You might want to take a look at Wikipedia:Files for upload, although there are severe limits on what copyright Wikipedia will accept on an image. If you can find an image on-line with a license that allows its modification and commercial re-use, such as Creative Commons CC-BY or CC-BY-SA, you can ask for it to be uploaded. The requirement is for a very permissive license (for instance, a user who uploaded a photo of a local Boy Scout troop for the Boy Scout article here might then find the same photo re-used on some other site eroticising spanking, with the whole mess surrounded with advertisements for commercical sponsors) so only a small minority of photographers release their material under such terms.
It is possible to use the "advanced search" on Flicker and search for "creative commons, permitting commercial use, images to modify and build upon" although these tend to be a minority of even the Creative Commons images on that site (most have restrictions, such as non-commercial use only, reuse with no modifications or are simply copyrighted so that you can't use them). You might also want to see commons.wikimedia.org to see if we already have anything here which fits. Most often, if you're looking for one specific landmark, it's a question of blind luck to find (or not find) an existing image. Sometimes one is available, sometimes.
I would also strongly advise that you try to find some reliable sources as references supporting your text, such as descriptions of your article's subject in books or news bulletins. The subject's own self-description is not reliable due to potential conflict of interest and sites like Facebook and YouTube tend not to be reliable (with rare exceptions, such as a TV station posting its news crew's footage on such a site after broadcast). 66.102.83.61 (talk) 16:26, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

One question about two printed paid-circulation magazines, "Route 66 Magazine" (quarterly) and "Rural Missouri"; I'd cited them and had a piece rejected for this on WP:RS grounds. Is there a specific issue with articles in these two publications as sources? They're not the sole sources for the article, but if they are valid then removing them would likely only weaken the article as one (Emily Priddy, Ron Warnick: Route 66 Magazine, 2002) did play a key role in a "Friends of the Mother Road" campaign by US66 preservationists to convince the current owners to abandon a demolition proposal for the site. 66.102.83.61 (talk) 16:26, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I disagree with the declining reviewer in this respect. I think both of those publications are very good sources, and the article itself looks great. Please follow the directions to resubmit the article and I will publish it shortly. Thanks, Nathan2055talk 22:56, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

However, the body/text of the article will not show on the screen or print for me. Your assistance would be appreciated. It will only allow printing of the references, contents and principles. Thank you for your assistance. I do need a copy for my own work; it allowed printing two days ago on March 4th, but not any additions since that time (e.g., employment integration). I have tried to submit an artical about 18 plus/eighteen plus. Can someone explain where i am going wrong? Thanks SouthernArea (talk) 19:02, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Most or all of your cited information comes from the group itself (plusgroups.org.uk, southern-area-plusgroups.org.uk) and not from neutral, reliable outside sources? That's usually problematic as it makes the resulting article look like an advertisement. 66.102.83.61 (talk) 20:21, 6 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, most of those sources are either from the group's website or a book published by the group. Find third party sources such as news articles that conform to WP:V and WP:MINREF (the two minimum required citation policies) and then follow the instructions to resubmit your article. Hello, there are no independent sources to cite this article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Browsermmorpg.com. Is there no way to put this article on the site? It is not a very big site, but it has been doing well and it has been launched in 2008. Since it is a relatively small site from Romania, there are no major sources of information about it.

Unfortunately, if there are no independent, reliable sources about Browsermmorpg.com, it is not important enough to have an article on Wikipedia. Sionk (talk) 21:25, 7 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Elementary schools are almost never considered notable, unless they pass the general notability guideline (it does not appear that your school does). If a submission is not notable, it cannot be accepted. See WP:VRS for more info on how notability is assessed. Pol430 talk to me 20:36, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

To whom this may concern,

I desperately need some advice. I am currently a student at the University of Washington, and as part of a class project we need to create a Wikipedia page for a local business. I have been trying to make a Wikipedia entry for Revel Consulting for about 3 months now. I constantly change the copy, formatting, references, and everything in between, yet my submissions are continuously denied. I have even tried modeling my entry after similar companies, despite their extremely simplistic and minamilastic provided information (for example Caiman_Consulting & Slalom_Consulting). I am truly stuck and I could really utilize more specific advice on how to get my entry approved; it has been denied and re-denied for a vast array of reasons, although it appears the same as already-existing pages. Please shed some advice, as my grade in my class depends on it, and the project's due date is rapidly approaching.

Thank you very much for your time and help,

Jason May jasonmay2@gmail.com Mynameisjmay33 (talk) 22:15, 8 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Local businesses are awkward to create as articles as it's very easy for the finished page to end up looking like an advertisement - something that the business itself (or its owners) might have written to only say good things about their company or its products. It's also not easy to show that something that only exists locally is important enough to have an article in an encyclopaedia read worldwide. Many local companies aren't important enough to be in Wikipedia at all.
The only way to try to write something like this is to look at this as if you knew nothing about the business, other than name, location and the most basic identifiers and were yourself trying to find the info in order to explain the topic. What can you find out that's reliable? Maybe there was an article about them in a newspaper, maybe they were mentioned in a book or in broadcast media. Go search online, find what reliable and neutral sources are saying about your intended subject, be prepared to abandon your topic as non-notable if they have nothing good or bad to say at all. If you find sources, summarise their information and site where you found the information. Don't insert your own personal observations, whether fact or opinion. Don't write a page just to say "I think XYZ company is so great" (or so awful); the former looks like an ad, the latter lacks neutrality.
Certainly there are existing pages which are problematic, we tend to tag them with {{advertisement}} to ask they be cleaned up or sometimes even delete them. That's no reason to create more pages which are merely cheerleading or promoting a firm instead of taking a neutral, objective and non first-person look at them to see if they're notable and give a balanced view of any notable good or bad things they've produced. 66.102.83.61 (talk) 00:34, 9 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Tell your tutor that local businesses are usually not notable enough to be on the mainspace, and keep that in mind next time they plan a project like this. At the meantime however, you can move the whole page onto your own space (as a subpage). In that case, you can have a page on Wikipedia, thus satisfy your assignment criteria. Could you please explain why the article is not "sufficiently notable", after all, being both a founder member of an international organisation and the oldest such organisation in South Africa, surely that is notable enough? As to their being sufficient notation, could you give an example of what would suffice? I have given references to almost every sentence and used recognised historical sources. Please indicate if you insist only on American sources or precisely what is needed?

1) Wikipedia cannot be a source. 2) "being both a founder member of an international organisation and the oldest such organisation in South Africa, surely that is notable enough?" Give independent sources which says that. If it is notable, then there will be more than one source on it. 3) Please use a consistent format when citing (I have fixed it now) 4) If it is not notable, it will never make it on Wikipedia, no matter how much you try. Have sold his soul, he asked that his name be removed. TOO BAD. Boyd also got cold feet. This is an ugly experience, at first. This morning, tho, I realized that in offering this physics, I stand alone but shoulder to shoulder with Albert Einstein. This leaves me feeling strong.— Preceding unsigned comment added by Ncutssss (talkcontribs) 18:08, 9 May 2012 (UTC) unsigned not NORMAN ALBERS[reply]

Hello,

I think I may have landed in AfC by mistake. I've been working improving the Sara Niemietz article for about a month. I created Sara Niemietz discography in the Draft section and used the "publish your article" link to arrive here.

After reading up on AfC, I find that there is a backlog of articles and that AfC is meant for those who wish to post anonymously/or don't have enough edits to move the article. Considering the backlog, should I remove the AfC template and move the draft into article space myself?

This will be my first new article, I believe I have decent references and category templates.

Yes, that would be grand. Also, if you can improve on your layout and formatting to suit Wikipedia guidelines, that'd be even better (see WP:LAY). Thanks. Kinkreet~♥moshi moshi♥~ 21:12, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is the article reviewed?

I recently created an article on Erin Martin: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Erin_Martin

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia_talk:Articles_for_creation/Erin_Martin

I searched for Erin Martin and found no result so I created the article. Now that I've submitted it, I got a warning that a page with the title exists. But when I search for Erin Martin, I redirect to my article of Erin Martin.

So I need confirmation on my article, is there really another article exists with the title of Erin Martin? Or the article meant is actually my article? And is my article reviewed?

Zarryfaz (talk) 04:37, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It means your article. Normally, editors will move the page to the mainspace. I have requested deletion of your AfC page. Good contribution. Kinkreet~♥moshi moshi♥~ 21:07, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Renaming an AfC

How do I delete the AfC Wikipedia talk:Articles for Creation/Alcohol (Race Horse) which I've renamed for consistency with other similar articles to Wikipedia talk:Articles for Creation/Alcohol (Horse)  ??

150.101.79.26 (talk) 05:59, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Both pages are non-existent. But I know what you mean, it's already been requested, there's nothing to do now. For future reference. Either blank the page (delete everything on the page) or request for speedy deletion. Kinkreet~♥moshi moshi♥~ 21:02, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am the process of creating a listing for my invention the Trongos, a newly invented musical instrument. Upon review I was informed that I did not have enough resources. My question is: since this is a new invention and I am the inventor, how am I supposed to get resources on something that is so new? Will uploading photos help? Should I list my web page that has information about the Trongos? Richard — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.89.169.169 (talk) 11:29, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Before anything, you have to show your subject (Trongos in your case) is notable. If you can find any newspaper or notable websites that interviewed you about your instrument, or anything else that proves to us that it is notable. See WP:notability for guidance. Please understand we cannot put everything on Wikipedia; there are millions of people inventing many million of things, they invention must be notable for inclusion here. Hope you can understand. WARWICK EVANS DESIGNER

Hi New to all this. I have made THREE requests for clarification. My article about the Cambridge industrial designer has been knocked back due to lack of references. But, it has over a dozen references. I have asked for clarification on this point, but answer comes there none.

Could somebody just send me a simple link to where you would like the references put, please?

Thank you Jhoward2003

Jhoward2003 (talk) 18:54, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is not the quality of your source that is the problem, it is the fact that either we will never be able to find the source and so it is not verifiable, and also because you didn't give us any links to anything specific - i.e. an article about the topic. A lot of topics are covered in the http://www.designcouncil.org.uk website, it's not all on Warwick Evans Designer. Be more specific. Find sources that people can actually look up. Those are the two points of improvement. Kinkreet~♥moshi moshi♥~ 20:53, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Jonathan Erickson Eisley

Question, How do you create a listing for this person, Jonathan Erickson Eisley. He is all over google, IMDB, been an actor for years, his brother David Glen Eisley is on Wiki, his sister in Law, Olivia Hussey is up on Wiki, his niece India Eisley is up here and his father, Anthony Eisley is listed, they are all actors that are known and yet Wikipedia cannot seem to verify any information on Jonathan Erickson Eisley who has been working as an actor and has over 64 credits on the IMDB alone. What is the secret to creating a page for this guy? Please let me know, because the last reviewer declined to open a page up after their review. Thank you, Just google his name and see. Best, A — Preceding unsigned comment added by Aypoliakin (talkcontribs) 20:16, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is not about the subject, it is also about how the article is written. Improve on your article by improving references, expanding the article body, and if you can't be bothered, simply request it so someone else can (MAY) write it for you (see WP:RA) Kinkreet~♥moshi moshi♥~ 20:58, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
