Contemode, stylized as "contemode", is a Japanese record label founded by Yasutaka Nakata in 2003. The label is based in Shibuya, Tokyo and specializes in a variety of musical styles including electropop, Shibuya-kei, lounge, dance, and hardcore house.[2] Yamaha Music Communications, a Yamaha subsidiary, is its official parent company, while Avex Trax serves as its distributor.

History

Contemode was formed in 2003 by Yasutaka Nakata, primarily as a base for Capsule, an electronic music duo he created in 2001 with vocalist Toshiko Koshijima. Nakata produces, composes, writes, designs and directs music videos for Capsule, and also produces and exercises a significant creative control over the other acts on his label. Nakata has described the music produced by Contemode acts as "an accessory to fashion", and their music can often be found for sale in fashion boutiques in Shibuya.[2]

Present Contemode artists include Capsule, Coltemonikha, Copter4016882 and Nagisa Cosmetic.[2]
