Wikipedia:Changing username/Simple

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Neophytesoftware (talk | contribs) at 04:02, 7 April 2006 ([[Neophytesoftware]]). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.
Simple username changes

This page hosts simple requests for a username change across the Wikimedia network. Requests are processed by stewards and global renamers.

Instructions
  1. Read Wikipedia:Changing username carefully. You must be aware of and understand all the implications of changing your username. Specifically:
    • Your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited, and in all log entries.
    • Your user pages, account preferences, and edits will be moved to the new name. Please do not create a new account or attempt to move them yourself.
    • Links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be created pointing to your new userpage.
    • Understand that using your real name as your username may put you at risk of harassment.
  2. Read the username policy and ensure your new name does not violate it. Usernames must not:
  3. Check that your new username is not already in use by searching for it on Special:CentralAuth. If the name is registered, even on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
If the target name hasn't made any edits to any Wikimedia project, you may request usurpation at meta:Steward requests/Username changes.
  4. Log in with your current username. Requests will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Place your request here.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=.
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=. Requests without a valid reason will not be approved.
    • Do not change anything else.
  6. Select Publish changes.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any inquiries regarding your request. Consider watching the page so you can monitor updates. Requests may be closed if there are unresolved queries.

Requests that do not follow these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

For stewards, global renamers, and clerks

Only stewards and global renamers have the authority to approve or decline requests. Requests are automatically clerked by a bot, but occasionally human intervention is required, particularly for malformed requests. If you would like to help out with clerking, please see Wikipedia:Changing username/Assistance.

Current requests

Please put new requests at the end of this section. Fulfilled requests will be moved immediately to the current archive.

Please note that renaming users puts a large load on the database. Please do not request a rename unless it is necessary. If you have only a few edits, see the alternatives above.
  • Preface your request with a heading, thus: === Target username ===
  • Sign your name at the end with four tildes: ~~~~

I would like my username changing to any random 5 letter string, I dont care what. CarlBooth 20:09, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to be renamed to "gold" Edward 10:53, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Gold aready exists. Please choose another username. =Nichalp «Talk»= 12:52, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please change my name to Voyager. I already use this name at Commons, Mediawiki and German wikipedia. Thanks. --Voyager 08:34, 14 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry, already Voyager exists. =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:02, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Please look again, there is no User:Voyager and no edits have ever been made with this account. --Voyager 21:48, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm sorry, but there is a User:Voyager already, as you can see at listusers. Angela. 00:24, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Greetings. I think that my current version of my nick spreads a rather bad opinion of me. It's regarding the "Holy" part. Perhaps someone could advice me on the issue? I am thinking of changing to Foyle, for instance. Also, I would want that done after my Nomination for Adminship fails/succeeds. Thanks in advance! --HolyRomanEmperor 16:18, 17 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please be certain what name to choose. =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:16, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
OK, how about Surgeon --HolyRomanEmperor 13:06, 29 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The account exists. Please go through the above instructions to check if a username is available. =Nichalp «Talk»= 07:25, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please rename to user:spirit. Thanks! mxdxcxnx 23:33, 18 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spirit exists. Please go through the instructions above before requesting a new name. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 13:16, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Hmph. Thanks anyway! (It might help to have a better username search process because in the above method, most usernames don't show up.) mxdxcxnx 14:31, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If I may trouble you with a silly request: I would like to change my username to User:Bilbo Baggins. I already created the Bilbo Baggins username (whoops). So I'm not quite sure what to do now. My excuse for all this is, I just got started as "Apeman" the other day. Thanks. [[User:<Bilbo Baggins>]] 14:41, 26 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You need to choose a name that doesn't exist already. Alternatively, you can just start using the Bilbo Baggins name and not worry about the old account. Angela. 00:24, 27 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have used the nickname "Trade-peror" on computer game forums, and I do not think the connection is a productive one, considering that the first article I posted, related to gaming, was deleted within a few days. I wish to start over on Wikipedia and adopt the user name of User:Questor's View's Northwarden. Thank you! --Trade-peror

What name do you want me to change it to? =Nichalp «Talk»= 07:25, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Done =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:42, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Wikikrieg

I have been prohibited from editing several times due to my username. It needs to stop, so I am requesting that it be changed to "HailJohnnyRamone." Wikikrieg 18:33, 30 March 2006 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 152.163.100.8 (talkcontribs)

It's your IP that is being blocked, not your username. This is because you use AOL. Changing name won't help. You need to change ISP. Alternatively, you might find that logging in at secure.wikimedia.org prevents this happening. Angela. 04:41, 31 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

murraypm

I have requested a change to ridley. You say that you changed it but I cannot use ridley and can only sign in as murraypmridley 08:38, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You put your request under the title User:Murray. I think Nichalp might have been renamed Murray instead. Are the contributions at Special:Contributions/Ridley yours? Angela. 09:13, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

No, those are not my changes.

I can't recall changing any username Murray Logs in the recent past. Someone else perhaps? Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:51, 2 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Here's the details of the change Done =Nichalp «Talk»= 09:18, 11 March 2006 (UTC)

Oh, I must have accidently put a "done" while mass renaming. If user:Ridley exists that means that you'll have to choose another username. Sorry for the inconvenience caused. Regards, =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:11, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I'll go for Ripley

I've been meaning to change my username for a long time; this is shorter and less confusing for people. Plus, I'm just barely below the 20k mark, so it is now or never. --maru (talk) contribs 05:47, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Username exists, see Special:Listusers. Is there a second choice? Essjay TalkContact 06:00, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Nope. Incidentally, is that a bug that listuser gives different results for "maru" and "Maru"? --maru (talk) contribs 06:31, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's not a bug. Wikimedia software automatically converts the first letter of an article/user name to upper case. =Nichalp «Talk»= 06:43, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jhlee

Please change my username to "j3nnifers". I don't know what I was thinking choosing Jhlee, I always use j3nnifers for everything on every site all the time. I literally created my account 10 minutes ago and am kicking myself for it. Thank you kindly. --Jhlee 11:00, 4 April 2006 (UTC)

Elliottume2005

Thinking about it, the 2005 seems rather obsolete now. So, if you would, I'd like to have my username changed to "Tumey". Thanks! --elliottume2005 12:41, 4 April 2006

Hanuman Das

I would like to have my username changed to "Hanuman Das". I'd also like to request that my user page and talk page not be moved to the new username. I will recreate them. Copy the 3RR section over if you must but please delete my signatures when you do so - or I will happily copy it over and change the sigs myself if you ask. Thanks! —Hanuman Das 20:07, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Done. Per your request, I have not moved your user/talk page. Essjay TalkContact 08:11, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, I've moved what text I need to. Could you please delete the old user and talk page along with the single archived talk page? Thanks! —Hanuman Das 14:03, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
You can request this by placing the {{delete}} tag on the pages; be aware, however, that we do not generally delete talk pages, as they contain discussions that may be needed in the future. The usual practice is to blank talk pages, rather than delete them. Essjay TalkContact 14:49, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. All taken care of. —Hanuman Das 03:19, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

User:Steven.gilberd

I would like to have my username changed to 'Steven Gilberd'. The current name confuses one of my browser plugins, plus I just don't like it. Cheers. Steven.gilberd 00:00, 5 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I would like to have my username changed to Gardar Rurak.

  • I have less than 20.000 edits, approximately 4000.
  • Username does not exist per the userlist as of April 5., 2005.

I would like my postings under my ip address converted to my user name. furthermore, instead of broadcasting ip addresses, can you consider print them out as a daily encryption instead of raw format? please delete request, after done, and do not archive. Thank you. Neophytesoftware 02:10, 6 April 2006 (UTC)neophytesoftware[reply]

Sorry, you are looking for WP:CHA which hasn't been operated for a long long time. (Short answer: we can't do that, sorry). As for not broadcasting IP addresses, you may want to consider filing a report at Bugzilla. As for not archiving, I'll leave it up to other Bureaucrats to figure out what to do. No matter what, it'll stay in the history though. — Ilyanep (Talk) 22:17, 6 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

thanks, a bug report was submitted regarding the raw ip addresses issue, don't know if it will result in change. i guess it recieved one vote so far, bugzilla is new to me. as far as deleting this from the archive, I suppose it is no big deal.

i would like to have my prior ip addresses updated to my username, I go through great lengths to block ad/spy servers, and ok theres my ip address. A spybot could...well lets not get into hypotheticals.

Requests from users with over 20000 edits

These requests will not currently be fulfilled; but may be in the future. See also m:Changing username for other complicated requests

User:Ambi to User:Rebecca. Would involve usurping an account with no edits as below, but I figured it'd be better to put it here. Ambi 11:30, 5 January 2006 (UTC)[reply]

What if somebody takes the the name Rebecca in the time being? 82.232.191.252 19:31, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's taken she wants the account deleted I think? It's already taken. Mike (T C) 05:39, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please contact me if my old account with 23736 edits can be moved to a new name. -Will Beback 22:08, 22 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Requests to usurp an existing account with no edits

Occasionally, someone will request to be renamed to an account that exists (has been registered) but has not made any edits. While there is precedent for making such changes, as yet there are no guidelines for handling such requests.

Add such requests here: /request to usurp.

After due consideration, I would prefer kconover as my user name, rather than my full email. I have no edits except this one.

Thank you.
