<b Table cell padding and spacing!
This table does not have any padding of any kind (except my words!) No padding here, I'm afraid! When we put a lot of text in a table then we find that the text tends to brush up to the border of the table and it looks a bit cramped.
However, we can fix it with a bit of padding.

<b However, this table has cell padding!
This is the code in the table;
When we put a lot of text in a table then we find that the text tends to brush up to the border of the table and it looks a bit cramped. Cell padding puts some space between the border of the cell and the text. Aren't I much prettier than before? <bWell, you know what you can do then. Put your own values in! And this table has cell spacing! This is the code in the table;
And this little pig, er table, had all the padding and spacing it wanted! This is the code in the table;When we put a lot of text in a table then we find that the text tends to brush up to the border of the table and it looks a bit cramped. Cell spacing puts some space between the cells themselves in the table.
When we put a lot of text in a table then we find that the text tends to brush up to the border of the table and it looks a bit cramped. Cell padding puts some space between the border of the cell and the text. Cell spacing puts some space between the cells. This table has both.cell padding This is the space between the cell border and the content within that cell, expressed in pixels. This can be used to adjust the layout with respect to the content space adjustment. These kinds of setting are minute and affect a lot on the overall appearance of the web page. We need to remember that the cell padding is added while setting the table properties hence, once the cell padding is added in terms of pixels to the particular table it is added to every cell within that table. Cell padding can not be changed individually for a single cell. Let us say you have a cell within which you are inserting a picture. For the ease of understanding we are taking the example of the picture otherwise same is applied for the text too. Initially we will add no padding to the cell. So we will create a table with no cell padding. <b <b <p align="center" <table border="3" cell spacing="10"web designing cell padding web designing cell padding For this, we will create a small picture first to insert in the cell. We have created a small image of 100 X 100 for this lesson. web designing cell padding Now let us add this small picture inside the cell. Since there is no cell padding, it will stick to the left side of the border of the cell by default. web designing cell padding
You can see this properly if the first cell is stretched a bit. web designing cell padding Now let us change the cell padding in the table properties to 7. Please remember that to change the table properties, you need to select the table first. web designing cell padding You can observe that there is a distance between the picture and the cell border. This distance is 7 pixels as we added in the table properties. The same is applied for the text as mentioned earlier. web designing cell padding

<b As a name suggest cell spacing means the space between two adjacent cells. Though the meaning is simple we need to understand to use this property carefully. Cell spacing can decorate the table if its used properly. It can be used to accommodate and cover the require distance to balance the design. Please make a note that since cell is a part of a table you have to select the table to apply cell spacing and once you apply cell spacing it is applied to all the cells in the table and not the single cell.
Lets insert a table on the page and apply cell spacing to it. We will try to find the possible ways to manipulate the table design using cell spacing. It is always interesting to know particularly in web page designing that how a simple command can make so much of a difference. You can insert the table using Insert menu and selecting Table or you can directly insert it from the tool box using common tab. You will get the following box. Try to input the same numbers while you do this in dreamweaver.

<b
These table settings will insert the following table with 3 rows 3 columns with no border and no cell padding and no cell spacing as well. Since there is no border, you won't see this table on the web page. The image you are watching is offline figure of the table what you will get while designing.
table cell spacing
Now we will keep the same settings and add same colors in the cell. <b table cell spacing
The same image you will see in the browser without those lines separating the cells and hence you will get just a green rectangle though the table is made up of 3 rows and 3 columns. table cell spacing
Lets change cell spacing to 3 and find the difference. Try to carefully watch the width of the table after adding the cell spacing. First we will see the offline image that we get in dreamweaver while we insert the table.
table cell spacing
And now lets preview the same table in the browser. <b
table cell spacing
Now we will add 10 for cell spacing and get the preview in the browser.
table cell spacing
You may think that the width of the table is decreased with the increase in the number of cell spacing but its not the case. Actually the table width remains the same and the cell spacing is adjusted within the length of the table that we have already given as 400 pixels. You will understand this by the following image taken from the offline dreamweaver document.
table cell spacing
Cell spacing can be used for anything where you need to add some space between the cells. You can use different colors for the cells. With the help of the cell spacing you can separate the text columns. You can adjust the distance between the images or any data you want to insert in the table.
