Proposals, December 2011

Please check how many articles qualify for a stub type before proposing it.

If (after approval) you create a stub type, please be sure to add it to the list of stub types. This page will be archived in its entirety once all discussions have been closed; there is no need to move them to another page.

US-comics-artist-stub

I would like to create a {{US-comics-artist-stub}}, in order to properly sort articles for American comic book artists. There are many that fall into more than one stub category, and this stub template would eliminate the need to place multiple stub tags on the same article. The corresponding Category:American comics artist stubs, would easily be populated by articles currently marked with {{comics-artist-stub}} (159 articles, most of which are Americans) and {{US-comics-creator-stub}} (226 articles, many that are strictly artists). Template no problem, category iff 60 articles use the template. SeveroTC 10:20, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
If even a fraction of those two categories are sorted into Category:American comics artist stubs, there will still be over a hundred articles that fall into that category, so there's no doubt that the category will be populated.
However, in the interest of better organizing and categorizing stubs and stub categories in Category:Comics creator stubs, I've noticed a couple more sub-categories that could stand to be created:

Non-European countries, the following two categories look viable:

The following templates (double upmerged to national sportspeople bio stubs cat) also look viable, I'll leave categories for now though and come back if they nudge 60:

As below, the category is already split by nationality so all speediable S2. SeveroTC 13:40, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

  • Category:European rallying biography stubs (87; double upmerged to Category:European auto racing biography stubs)
    • (17; double upmerged to Category:French auto racing biography stubs)
    • (17; double upmerged to Category:British auto racing biography stubs)

SeveroTC 13:28, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

The following all look feasible on currently tagged articles, maybe a few more lurking out there untagged as yet:

As above, the category already has some splits by nationality so it's speediable S2. SeveroTC 13:28, 30 December 2011 (UTC)

Speedy request. To pick up {{aero-1910s-stub}}. 62 articles. Dawynn (talk) 14:55, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

Speedy request. To pick up {{aero-1920s-stub}}. 73 articles. Dawynn (talk) 14:39, 29 December 2011 (UTC)

The following countries seem to be ready for their own music biography stub categories:

General request for geologic period stub types

I was hoping no one would object to me creating a stub type for each different geologic period (eg Triassic-stub, Jurassic-stub, Cretaceous-stub). I stopped counting how many articles would be in the Triassic stub type at about 200. Each other period can be expected to have several hundred members. Abyssal (talk) 22:08, 23 December 2011 (UTC)

Triassic has 551 stubs, Jurassic has 628, Cretaceous has over 1000. Looking farther back, the Permian has 350. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 09:20, 26 December 2011 (UTC)
And 205 for the Carboniferous, 336 for the Devonian, 133 for the Silurian, 311 for the Ordovician, and 595 for the Cambrian. עוד מישהו Od Mishehu 08:56, 2 January 2012 (UTC)
I don't see why not (at {{Jurassic-stub}}, Category:Jurassic stubs etc) with cats iff 60 (which looks definite). What category would Category:Jurassic stubs etc be placed into? SeveroTC 22:31, 27 December 2011 (UTC)
Paleontology stubs. Abyssal (talk) 05:21, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Maths Stubs sub-sub-categories

Several of the subcategories of {{math-stub}} have gotten quite large, especially since there is plenty more in the parent category still to sort. I've done some counts (listed on my user page), and it looks like:

This all looks good, nice work :) My comments are:

I was following the lead of stubs like {{mathapplied-stub}} and {{mathanalysis-stub}}, but they definitely sound better the right way around to match the content. Would {{group-theory-stub}} be a better name for the Group theory stubs than the other suggestions then? (ie, is it considered better to have a clear link to it's parent stub, or to its topic category?)
And most cryptographers in my experience identify as computer scientists not mathematicians, so I like that idea too. --Qetuth (talk) 16:27, 22 December 2011 (UTC)
I don't quite follow about group theory. "Theory" stubs in general are either at for example {{gametheory-stub}} (all one word) or {{music-theory-stub}} (two words). It maybe better to go with {tl|knottheory-stub}} because otherwise it could be seen to be a theory of knots... I will also look at taking {{mathapplied-stub}} and {{mathanalysis-stub}} to WP:SFD because they should use the -math- stem. SeveroTC 10:38, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
Sorry if I was unclear. What I meant was: Group theory is the name of the field of study, a subfield of Abstract Algebra. So if you purely use the name Group theory for the stubs, as is done with the actual categories, the connection to either Abstract Algebra or to Maths isn't clear from just the name, and I wondered if that was something to be avoided where possible. But I think {{grouptheory-stub}} and {{knottheory-stub}} are probably the best names for those two stub types regardless - it matches the category/topic name but doesn't make them look a subset of 'group' or 'knot'. Actually in the whole tree of 33 subcateogries of "math-stub", only one starts with "math-" although as you said a few more should ({{mathlogic-stub}} and {{mathematics-lit-stub}} are two more). --Qetuth (talk) 13:04, 23 December 2011 (UTC)
Lacking any voice against, I have created {{abstract-algebra-stub}}, {{linear-algebra-stub}}, {{differential-geometry‎-stub}}, {{elementary-geometry-stub}} complete with categories and populated them up to 70-160 articles each. I'll do the stubs (but not cats) for the smaller two tomorrow ({{crypto-bio-stub}} and {{knottheory-stub}}). --Qetuth (talk) 16:24, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
