Polycrates of Argos was a Ptolemaic commander at the Battle of Raphia.[1]

Polycrates of Argus was a governor of Cyprus and chancellor of Ptolematic kingdom in the late third and early second centuries was joined as a hippic winner at the Phanathenea by his wife and three daughters. there are a lot of information received, and those we are uncertain.[2] He was married with Zeuxo of Cyrene and he had 3 children: Zeuxo, Encrateia and Hermione. He was a Ptolemaic commander at the Battle of Raphia. The Battle of Raphia, also known as the Battle of Gaza, was a battle fought on 22 June 217 BC near modern Rafah between the forces of Ptolemy IV Philopator, king of Egypt and Antiochus III the Great of the Seleucid kingdom during the Syrian Wars. It was one of the largest battles of the Hellenistic kingdoms of the Diadochi and was waged to determine the sovereignty of Coele Syria. Important are his daughter.
