Neurocomputational speech processing tries to simulate speech production and speech perception in a very natural way, i.e. by simulating the neuronal processes of speech production and speech perception, occurring in the central as well as in the peripheral nervous system. The term speech processing is often used in a more technical sense for comprising speech recognition and speech synthesis. Language processing also comprises writing and mainly focusses on higher level processing of cognitive units while speech processing mainly focusses on cognitive processing and sensorimotor processing of spoken language (i.e. of speech, which will be articulated or perceived).
