Architecture Neutral Distribution Format (ANDF) was commissioned by the OSF to allow common "shrink wrapped" binary application programs to be distributed for use on conformant Unix systems, each of which might run on different underlying hardware platforms. TDF was the winning candidate, one of several which underwent preliminary and final design phase competition followed by a comparative testing phase of the implementations.
