Windows Printing System
Appearance
Software from Microsoft that uses the CPU in a Windows PC to create the output for the printer. It allows lower-cost printers to be built, because all the page composition is done in the computer. It uses Windows' internal graphics display system (GDI) to prepare the output. The printer is often called a "GDI printer." The first version of the Windows Printing System included a cartridge for the LaserJet printer and an enhanced printer driver for improved performance.
