The Canadian Operational Support Command (CANOSCOM) (in french : Commandement du soutien opérationnel du Canada or COMSOCAN) is one of seven commands of the Canadian Forces (CF). It provides the CF with combat support (including logistics, military engineering, land equipment maintenance services, communications and information systems, health services and military police) and service for both domestic and international missions.

Composition

CANOSCOM consists of approximately 1,100 soldiers from all branches of the Canadian Forces who provide operations support to thousands of Canadian Forces involved in many missions. The CANOSCOM commands the Canadian Forces Joint Support Group, the Canadian Forces Joint Signal Regiment and Canadian Materiel Support Group. CANOSCOM oversees 16 units and formations. Canadian Forces Materiel Support Group

7 Canadian Forces Supply Depot (7 CFSD) is a unit in the Canadian Forces Materiel Support Group within CANOSCOM. 7 CFSD is located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, and was originally formed as a unit of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) during the Korean War. In 1968, 7 CFSD transitioned beneath the command and control of the Canadian Forces when the Royal Canadian Navy, Canadian Army, and Royal Canadian Air Force were merged into a unified structure under Canadian Forces integration.

Its mission is to provide reactive, flexible, efficient and effective materiel support to the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Forces. The mandate of 7 CFSD is act as a warehouse and distributor of equipment to Canadian Forces bases, wings, units and formations. The depot husbands nationally procured stock and provides Central Materiel Traffic Terminal transportation services. The present main warehouse is a large single-story structure, 450 metres in length and 170 metres wide that covers 7.5 hectares. The depot's motto is "We Keep The Flame Alive”, and supports the region from British Columbia to Manitoba (25 CFSD in Montreal, Quebec supports Department of National Defence and the Canadian Forces from Ontario to Newfoundland and Labrador).

7 CFSD is currently manned by 28 military personnel and 83 civilian employees.

The depot's history began in 1952 when construction begun on the main warehouse, covering 18.5 acres

July 1954: Official opening of the 7 Supply Depot at Lancaster Park, Alberta. The depot was established as a component of Material Command in order to receive, store, warehouse and distribute equipment and stock to Canadian units and bases.

October 1968: When Material Command was disbanded under integration, the depot was renamed No.7 Canadian Forces Supply Depot (7 CFSD) and reassigned to Air Transport Command.

May 1970: The Chief of the Defence Staff transfers 7 CFSD to Canadian Forces Headquarters Chief of Technical Services.

February 1974: 7 CFSD transferred to Canadian Forces Headquarters Assistant Deputy Minister (Material).

December 1983: 7 CFSD transferred to National Defence Headquarters Assistant Deputy Minister (Material).

February 2006: 7 CFSD transferred to Canadian Operational Support Command.
